Senior Engineer, Core Research Support (High Performance Computing)

Job description / Role

The mission of this unit is to conduct research and analysis in order to provide information to support institutional planning, assessment, policy analysis, and decision making, and to facilitate institutional effectiveness to advance the mission of the University.

Job Function:
- To contribute to the research and Development Center of the University and assist the Department Head with effective development, implementation of KU Research programs.
- To actively support the faculty, students and researchers in research activities and actively contributing to the university’s research profile

Job Duties:
- Actively engages in research and contributes to the university’s research profile;
- Supervises students and research associates’ research work;
- Suggests improvements or provide recommendations during the research and development (R&D) process.
- Other duties may include writing summaries of structural tests, presenting product performances to project managers and preparing process manuals and guidelines.
- Assists with pursuing research funding through the development of quality grant proposals;
- Establishes collaborative research and teaching links outside the university via funding councils, industry, business and public bodies.
- Supports the Dept. in budget preparation by highlighting resource requirements such as equipment, manpower and space;
- Manages the allocation of work and responsibilities to the assigned technical team
- Ensures work is carried out and performed to the required standards;
- Contributes to development of policies and procedures in own work area;
- Participates in Research committees and boards, taking responsibility for key administration tasks;
- Undertakes continuous professional development (CPD) and participates in staff development activities;
- Represents the institution in a professional capacity, e.g. conferences, meetings, with industrial partners,
- Performs other similar or related duties as and when assigned by the direct manager.

Requirements

- MSc. in computer science or engineering related discipline with strong background in research and any relevant certifications are added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience (which could include a PhD) in research related area with:
- Experience of specifying, purchasing and commissioning new computer hardware and software.
- Experience of implementing and operating computer configuration management systems.
- Knowledge of current computing technologies and best practices.
- Familiarity with a variety of HPC subject area concepts and practices in the context of Academic Research.
- Understanding of Research Compliance Requirements
