Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The position provides supervision to the library team in five key functions of the Library at JU: Liaison Services; Enquiry and Lending Services; Acquisition and Cataloguing; E-library Services and Bookstore. The role will ensure excellent library services delivery at both the Male and Female Libraries at JU. The key responsibility is to ensure effective supervision of the library team and resources to guide the development of community-based learning at JU.

Library Administration
- Assist the CAO in developing the annual operational plan of the library.
- Communicate the library operating procedures and toolkits to the library team and accountable for procedural and toolkits compliance.
- Administer the operations of the JU Libraries with reference to liaison services, enquiry and lending services, acquisition and cataloguing services, e-library services and bookstore services.
- Liaise with the CAO, makes inputs into the operating budget of JU Libraries that is in alignment with the JU business plan.
- Liaises with the CAO to mitigate and/or propose recommendations for handling critical operational risks

Library Information Resources
- Ensures that the Library service excellence model is developed and deployed across JU Libraries
- Supervises teams to ensure excellence in delivery of liaison services, enquiry and lending services, acquisition and cataloguing services, e-library services and bookstore services
- Manages library complaints resolution processes to ensure that Library stakeholders are satisfied with service delivery

Library Services
- Under the direction of the CAO, establishes KPIs and benchmarks for JU Libraries
- Ensures that tools and measures are documented and/or utilized to support collection, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of information for performance management
- Monitors the performance of the Library Team members and prepares quarterly and annual performance appraisal reports together with the CAO
- Presents performance results to the CAO and, where appropriate, relevant managers, Councils, Committees, Steering Groups, Taskforces and Business Units
- Conducts studies and makes recommendations for improved service delivery.

Team Leadership
- Collaborates with Academic Program Directors, instructional staff and Learning and Development Academy personnel to develop the Library collections and required supporting library resources
- Trains Library Team members to perform duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Supervises Library Team members to ensure optimal performance on day-to-day basis
- Facilitates harmonious working relationships among team members and with other Business Units and Departments at JU

University Services and Taskforce Assignment
- Executes activities when allocated within one of the University Taskforce Teams or special assignment.
- Participates in the Library’s learning events and shares knowledge with colleagues within and outside the Team in accordance with JU policies and practices

Requirements

- Master’s degree in library science or information systems from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in library operations and 3 years in library team supervision.
- Sound experience in library operations and systems in a higher or vocational education environment; commitment to service excellence; knowledge of software systems used in library environments; experience with in the use of cataloguing and circulation systems in libraries.
- Strong organization skills, multi-tasking ability, planning, negotiating and administrative skills are required.
- Excellent communication skills in English as evidenced by experience in workshop delivery. Proficiency in Arabic would be a distinct advantage.
- Technical report writing and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project software) skills at intermediary level
