Job Description
* Credit approver role supporting the Financial Markets ("FM") business across Africa and the Middle East
* Provide transaction level approval for trades arising from the FM business
* Proactively monitor and manage exposures arising from FM transactions

Key Roles and Responsibilities
* To effectively manage all credit risk undertaken by the Financial Markets business across the region
* Using delegated credit authority, approve temporary excesses for time sensitive transactions
* Provide Appropriateness & Suitability ("A&S") and other transactional approvals
* Provide analysis of complex financial markets transactions and business proposals and ensure that risks are taken by the business are within the guidelines and policies for B") and Commercial Banking ("CB") counterparties
* Provide guidance to FM Structurers, FM Sales, Relationship Managers, and Credit Officers with regard to appropriateness and suitability as well as credit exposure assessment of FM products, monitoring, reporting, and escalation
* Contribute to the enhancement of the identification and risk management process for Wrong Way Risk
* Provide input for stress testing on commodity prices, foreign exchange rates, interest rates, and scenario analysis in stress tests and Global Counterparty Credit Risk Forum. Review stress test results and assess their implications
* Be the primary business contact for issues concerning derivative instruments, money market instruments, and single issuer limits
* Manage risk exposures in the trading portfolios. Provide early warning and identify deteriorating credits. Manage exposure down as required
* Be alert to significant market movements and provide appropriate response to material events or other risk issues
* Facilitate Financial Markets business through approving new Product Programs and Country Addendums, ensuring proper counterparty limits set for liquidity management and for trading, and reviewing credit excess approval guidelines to enhance framework for approval criteria & turnaround times
* Provide inputs in setting global policies for traded credit risk
* Provide guidance to Credit Officers in negotiating FM documents like ISDA, CSA and GMRA
* Ensure risk identification, measurement, reporting, and modelling capabilities are objective, consistent, and compliant with applicable regulations
* Ensure that material risk exposures and related issues are reported to Head, Traded Credit Risk, MENAP & Africa for notifying the responsible Financial Markets Product Governance Committees and to Group and Business-level committees as appropriate
* Design, maintain and effectively communicate risk control parameters across Financial Markets, including policies, control standards, risk exposure limits and other control levers in order to maintain Bank's risk profile in line with the Group's risk appetite
* Ensure the completeness of Operational Risk Control activities, i.e., BKCSAs, KCIs/CSTs, Business Continuity Plan, Recovery Exercise, Fire Drills, etc. for Market and Traded Credit Risk Management and identify and address any significant gaps that may exist between them
* Ensure the effectiveness of controls and compliance with applicable laws & regulations with regard to client's appropriateness and suitability through spot check and other monitoring methods
* Maintain a good understanding of the requirements of the Bank's key external stakeholders in respect of risk management and ensure these are well understood internally and reflected in internal procedures
* Ensure effective management of operational risks within the Market and Traded Credit Risk Management function and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations
* Maintain an open and cooperative relationship in dealings with regulators and auditors

Requirements

* Preferred Bachelor's Degree
* CFA and/or FRM qualification preferred
* Good knowledge of financial market products, documents and structures and risks associated with the underlying traded products
* Strong credit risk and/or market risk background
* Strong analytical skills
* Experience in managing stakeholders across business, risk and back office functions
* Good written and oral communication skills
