Senior Transportation Design Engineer - Deputy

Job description / Role

Our client is a leading Middle East based engineering consultancy with offices throughout the region and a track record of working on high profile projects. They are currently looking to recruit a Senior Transportation Design Engineer to be the Deputy Department manager at their Sharjah office and work on RTA projects.

The role will include the following.
- Supports the Department Manager with the management and monitoring of the transportation planning and design processes to ensure that they are proceeding according to pre-defined criteria, budget, schedule, and quality standards.
- Assist the Department Manager to prepare the Department Work Program according to pre-approved time budget, allocate man hours and distribute workload to engineers in the Department according to existing project load, scope and engineer capabilities.
- Assist the Department Manager to organize and structure the Sections of the Department, and manage and motivate employees in order to ensure efficiency in performance and best results measured by benchmarks.
- Support the Department Manager to lead the team to meet the overall objectives of the Department.
- Liaise with the Department Manager on controlling resources to meet the demands of the workload.
- Support the Department Manager to provide technical information and man hour estimates to Contracts and Tenders Department for inclusion in Proposals.
- Liaise with clients and, where relevant, project managers to provide all necessary requirements during the concept design stage.
- Monitor the handling of RFIs from the construction site by the Senior Project Engineer.
- Attend occasional site visits and meetings with project stakeholders, including but not limited to the design team, the Client, and Contractors.
- Conduct client meetings, as required, to discuss technical matters, manage client relations and expectations, ensure client satisfaction with the project and monitor the quality of the project parts submitted to date.
- Refer to manuals from the relevant local authorities (e.g. Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi) to obtain the latest approved specifications to be used in construction of the design project.
- Handling project procurement with preparation of technical and financial proposals.

Requirements

Candidates must have a degree in civil engineering and will also have a Master degree in transportation related subject and will preferably be a chartered member of a recognised professional institute. Candidates must have worked on RTA projects and should expertise of the relevant engineering, drafting and project management software.

Candidates should have understanding and in depth knowledge of engineering standards and codes, both local and international as well as RTA standards and legal requirements. Candidates must be fluent in Arabic and English - both written and spoken.
