Senior Electrical / Mechanical Engineer

Job description / Role

- Accountable for timely execution of MEP site activities as per the approved drawing, client specification and local authorities.
- Supervise MEP contractors at site and ensure the proper quality of work being executed.
- Supervise all the MEP installation, testing, factory acceptance test and commissioning activities.
- Liaise with ABB project team and coordinate the MEP works with other electrical & civil activities.
- Liaise with the client / consultant for all the MEP site activities.
- Maintain site record for the RFC drawing, site notes, client inspection and snags.
- Verify the material quantity take off.
- Follow up clearing the client / Consultant comments and snags.
- Attend meetings with client / consultant and follow up the agreed actions on time.
- Coordinate and review the builders work drawing with the MEP contractors.
- Ensure and check the MEP civil requirement are provided at site in the proper time to avoid re-work.
- Arrange and chair co-ordination meetings with all subcontractors involved in the works in conjunction with the project management team on a biweekly basis and more frequently if required

DESIGN STAGE
- Preparing Electrical Requirements Report to provide the Design Team with all crucial information regarding expected services spaces, loads, conditions & restrictions. He will be responsible to come up with estimations of considerable accuracy, without major design changes later in design development stage.
- Shall be responsible for application procedure to get New, Revision or renewal of Electrical & Telephone NOCs, added to DEWA, Civil Defense or other authorities’ procedures for drawings, calculations & load schedules approvals.
- Carrying out calculations & design for Lighting, Power Supply, Emergency Lighting, Fire Alarm, Low Voltage systems & transformers.
- Prepare design for in-house drafting and instruct CAD technicians for preparation of drawings, as well as coordination before start of construction.
- Hands-on in preparing tender documents and BOQ’s with active involvement in tender review and analysis.

SUPERVISION STAGE
- Scheduling submittals, shop drawings review and material approval within project time-frame.
- Supervision of Electrical works and materials as per approved drawings & submittals. Also, coordinating for authorities inspections till final connections.
- Attend Technical discussion with the Client and contractors at site meetings & to provide technical support for construction activities.
- Develop detailed plans for testing / commissioning of all items.
- Identify latest technologies suitable for the project, with good knowledge of Green Building regulation, solid experience in implementation & cost impact.
- Shall be member of UAE Society of Engineers, self motivated, loyal, hard working & holding a valid driving license.

Requirements

A professional Electrical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer with over 10 years of experience in design and site supervision in UAE. Has been Designing high rise buildings/tower and other projects like villa, commercial and residential buildings, schools, and other amenities.

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or a related Engineering based subject (or equivalent qualification)
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related Engineering based subject (or equivalent qualification)
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Similar experience working in a design consultancy, with experience of concept, scheme and detail design across a range of sectors.
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in an engineering design consultancy, developing design calculations and modelling/drawing of Public health or HVAC systems, with further interest in sustainable efficient technologies and passive design.
- In depth and up to date knowledge of building services systems.
- A good level of computer literacy and ideally experience in some other software such as IES, Hevacomp Mechanical, AMTECH, NFPA, HASS 7.9 R16, Carrier and Meteonorm 7 or other thermal modelling software is desirable as is use of NES and Microsoft Office products.
- Working knowledge of document production using AutoDesk software.
- AutoCAD and BIM is used extensively and knowledge of BIM tools is required.
- A good understanding of quality assurance, safety and environmental sustainability.
- Undertake design development based on design briefs, including preparation of reports, designs, and specifications to the level of detail required for construction.
- Communication with design teams
- Ensure effective coordination occurs with other disciplines such as Architecture, Electrical Engineering and Structural Engineering.
- Comply with the Quality Assurance system, quality control and document management in line with current policy (ISO9001)
- Manage own workload and time constraints to ensure timely delivery of deadlines.
- Contribute to discussions on emerging legislation and engineering standards relating to mechanical building services.
