Stage Hand

Job description / Role

JOB PURPOSE

This role is part of a team that delivers technical services across staging, lighting and sound at Dubai Opera. The Stagehand is customer focussed and supports performers and hirers to achieve excellence in their field and events and productions to our customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Ability and passion to work in a live theatre / venue environment, including:

- Irregular and long shift patterns;
- Strong verbal communication (English)
- Attention to detail
- Adherence to Health and Safety procedures

• Undertake physically demanding work including manual handling for all types of production equipment and scenery, as well as the load in and load out process.
• Provide basic operation of production equipment and scenery for performances, events and rehearsals in all venues as needed.
• Identify faulty or unsafe equipment and report to supervisor.
• Assembling equipment, including working at heights so that safety and design requirements are met.
• Properly store, clean and maintain equipment. Clean and keep tidy all storage and backstage areas.
• Deliver a high level of service, and contribute to a customer service culture within Technical Services.
• Communicate effectively with team members and other Dubai Opera stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met.
• Work within defined Health and Safety Standards, and other workplace-related procedures and instructions. Contribute to the organisational safety culture at the Opera House.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• Demonstrated basic technical understanding, skills and experience in at least two of staging, lighting or sound/AV (highly desirable).
• Basic hand & power tool skills.
• Good spoken and written English communication skills
• Physical fitness, agility and ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Ability to assemble relevant technical equipment for performances/ events, while working under supervision.
• Willingness to abide by Dubai Opera policies, particularly Health and Safety procedures and how to comply with them, including manual handling techniques.
