Job description / Role

Converts written material from English To Arabic and vice versa, ensuring that, as far as possible, the translated version is as accurate as the source language text. Works on the following types of documents: Oil & Gas; technical; commercial; HSE; legal; magazine articles, correspondences etc..

Ensures maintaining a glossary of Arabic/ English terms, and supports, as language specialist, the editorial and correspondence functions of the Department.

Principal Accountabilities:
- Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language (English x Arabic), ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
- Using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
- Using appropriate software for slick presentation and delivery;
- Researching legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation;
- Liaising with other departments to discuss any unclear points;
- Proofreading and editing final translated versions;
- Providing a grammatical, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document;
- Using the internet and email as research tools throughout the translation process;
- Meeting deadlines;
- Consulting with experts in specialist areas;
- Liaising with businesses, legal firms and government departments as necessary, depending on the content of the material to be translated;
- Retaining and developing specialist knowledge on specialist areas of translation;
- Networking and making contacts.
- Editing and refining texts from both languages.

Requirements

- B.A. in English Language or Literature or Translation.
- 5 years in complex translation work preferable Oil & Gas
- Master Command of spoken and written Arabic and English.
