Job Description

A position of Veterinary Clinical Training Coordinator (VCTC) is being offered by the Veterinary Medicine Department (VMD), United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating clinical training internships for UAEU students at designated veterinary facilities within the UAE and abroad. Through supporting functions relating to the scheduling of student seminars, onsite visits at placement sites for veterinary student interns, the incumbent will be the day-today-contact person responsible for all the coordination needed to effectively monitor and evaluate the clinical training undertaken by veterinary students. The successful candidate will be required to build working relationships with departmental faculty and staff as well as with professionals and administrators of the designated collaborating veterinary hospitals/clinics, animal shelters, and other appropriate animal facilities providing off campus internship placement for the senior veterinary students as they undertake the mandatory veterinary clinical training.

To successfully interphase with the collaborating veterinary institutions, the incumbent will be required to proactively communicate with all stakeholders and constantly provide feedback to the departmental administrators and faculty engaged in the implementation of the clinical veterinary training for senior students. Besides the above roles, the VCTC will also be responsible for the maintaining all routine logistic operations pertaining to the clinical training of students. While the VCC will be based at the Falaj Hazza campus of the UAEU, frequent travel to sites of student internships and to the UAEU main campus is expected.

Requirements

Summary of Essential Functions of the Position:
- Be able to teach the clinical subject of your specialization to veterinary graduate students
- Plan and schedule the internship training program for the senior veterinary students (including identification of work areas, dividing students into batches and preparing a time-table) and foresee and coordinate its implementation.
- Prepare the rules and regulations for students undertaking the clinical training/internships and implement the same upon approval.
- Secure veterinary clinical sites for internship placements for senior veterinary students
- Build and maintain relationships with local veterinary hospitals, animal shelters and other veterinary facilities suitable for student internship rotations
- Monitor and track student hours, training and requisite documentation
- Monitor the clinical training by performing on-site evaluations of veterinary students at their internship placement sites
- Remain current in field of clinical veterinary medicine and surgery
- Assist the Chair and other faculty within the Veterinary Medicine Department with accreditation policies and procedures as they relate to internship
- Manage Internship Orientations
- Undertake public relations role to promote the clinical and veterinary diagnostic services offered by the veterinary department<b>Minimum Qualification</b>
- DVM degree or an equivalent veterinary degree is mandatory.
- European or American Board certification in clinical specialty.
- Work experience should include at least 5 years of clinical veterinary practice
- Experience in in management of academic programs under a veterinary academic setting.

Preferred Qualification
- PhD in clinical veterinary medicine or veterinary surgery.
- 10 years of clinical veterinary practice
- Experience in management of academic programs under a veterinary academic setting.
- Experience in advising senior students undertaking a Bachelor/doctor of veterinary medicine program
- Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and time management skills, be able to multi-task and possess strong critical thinking skills.
