Master of Nursing Practice

Students who successfully complete the Master of Nursing Practice are eligible to seek Registered Nurse status with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) as a professional nurse in Australia and by mutual recognition in New Zealand. This is a graduate entry-level course designed for those who hold an existing AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant area and who are not registered to practise as a nurse in Australia. UNE offers a safe, pleasant rural environment for study and equips nursing graduates with the knowledge and skills to function in both metropolitan and rural healthcare settings. This is important as nursing staff shortages are more acute in the rural sector. UNE nursing graduates are well regarded by employers in the healthcare sector.

The aims of this course are to build on the existing skills of students who have already completed a relevant AQF level 7 equivalent Bachelor level degree and who wish to become Registered Nurses with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency. The focus will be on giving these students the necessary, discipline specific knowledge and skills required to become a competent, beginning level, professional Registered Nurses in a variety of settings and to provide evidence-based, creative, sensitive and responsible nursing care to the clients with whom they work. The course also aims to produce graduates who appreciate the value of life-long learning and who have a firm foundation for further study at postgraduate levels.
