Georeferencing of Vectors and Raster

About this Course:

In this course you will learn the methodologies for georeferencing vectorial and raster geographic data. The skills learned in this course are fundamental to your professional career and will help you increase productivity and competitiveness.

In fact, georeferencing is a fundamental step for all the analyzes of the GIS Science sector! It is not enough to know how to press a key to geo-reference a cartographic data correctly, but it is necessary to acquire a minimum of theoretical knowledge beforehand.

In this course, before moving on to the broad practical part, there is an equally wide introductory theoretical part that will make you understand the differences between Geoid and Ellipsoid , you will know some of the most used cartographic projections and the concept of DATUM will be clarified . You will have the opportunity to understand the difference between a carrier and a raster and you will see how it is possible to geo-reference this type of data.

The course ends with a practical exercise that will help you test the knowledge you have acquired.

During the course I will release both the slides and the material used in the various lessons and of course the files that will be used for the final exercise.

Thanks to the theoretical introduction, you will be able to georeference a geographical data with any software! The software used for this course is QGIS in version 3.x , which has now become one of the best GIS software. QGIS has been developed for a decade, is constantly updated, has a wide range of users and many support forums. It is used by many public realities but also private ones. The Tuscany Region, for example, also with a view to complying with the Digital Administration Code (DL n.82, 7 March 2005) , releases the cartographic data in the form of a QGIS project.
