Great reasons to apply:

  • A course with the name Innovation Management remains a unique offer in an art and design education context
  • The course's situation within an art and design educational context allows it to use 'learning through doing' as an important driver of its pedagogy
  • The course highlights complexity, criticality and creativity as key elements of its practice. In doing this it engages fully and deeply with a range of other disciplines - notably, philosophy, sociology and anthropology - to augment its examination of innovation and management, design and business
  • The course uses uncertainty as a creative tool, and in doing so engages positively with failure as driver of educational transformation as well as organisational change
  • As such, MA Innovation Management graduates are comfortable operating in complex, liminal spaces, where simplistic notions of 'problem solving' are inadequate.

Course details:

MA Innovation Management is part of the Culture and Enterprise Programme. It focuses on the need to equip graduates with the intellectual and practical abilities to operate creatively and strategically as an innovation manager within complex environments and contexts, and to continue their development academically and professionally. In order to do this, students need to be able to work cooperatively as well as independently, to explore and experiment, and to map and plan.

MA Innovation Management helps students develop their knowledge and understanding of the complex interrelating discourses and practices influencing innovation management, whilst also equipping students with the necessary cognitive and practical skills with which to provide critical responses to them.

We support students to think and learn both independently and as an important member of teams, establishing and conveying, with conviction, their own critical position so that they emerge with a clear set of principles and practices to underpin their future career.

Our goal is to develop graduates with an ability to cross discursive, practice, subject and organisational boundaries. Our graduates should have the ability to work & managing themselves and others & in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team on projects that are often global in nature, in open and responsible ways. This is in line with changes to the design industry over recent years, as well as the transformations in the demands of business and society that recognise the importance of creativity, critical thinking and familiarity with uncertainty.
