Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities:

Marketing, Communications and Public Relations
• Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring success of the marketing communications plan and public relations program that enhances the image of the brand in the marketplace and with consumers (shoppers and owners).
• Ensure that evaluation systems are in place and report progress to GM and Board
• Facilitate internal (signs, templates, etc.) and external communications (direct mail, emails, etc.)
• Manages editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all Valley Natural Foods publications including This is Living Naturally (co-op newsletter), owner communication and the annual report
• Ensures brand standards are upheld across all marketing and communication platforms
• Provide support to department managers for marketing, branding and communications issues
• Direct planning/content for website, e-newsletter, blogs, social media platform and management of digital assets
• Determine advertising plan and manage advertising budget
• Coordinate annual meeting and production of owner communication and marketing pieces
• Manage promotional materials for merchandising projects/educational outreach/community relations

Business Strategy and Planning
• Creates annual marketing budget for Valley Natural Foods and Down in the Valley Bakehouse and monitors budget lines, adjusting line items as needs arise.
• Set customer count goals for business planning and marketing plan tactical execution
• Oversee Community Action Committee, Volunteer Rewards program and Loyalty Shopper program
• Participate in setting goals for ownership planning and owner drives
• Connect with community for potential partnerships
• Oversee event calendar and event promotional plans
• Work with management team to develop and maintain a strategic perspective based on marketplace and consumer needs in organizational direction including programs and services
• Work with General Manager and management team to help facilitate strategic planning process for the business
• Ensure that Valley Natural Foods regularly conducts relevant market research and implements/oversees the activity and monitors trends

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with natural foods, grocery industry or cooperatives
• 5-10+ professional marketing and leadership experience, 5+ years senior level management experience, or M.A. or M.B.A. in Marketing, Communications or related field
• Previous experience with business strategy planning and POS systems
• Previous experience in retail, grocery/co-ops, natural foods or related industry

Physical Demands of Position:
• Ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 10 pounds frequently, 20+ pounds occasionally
• Manual dexterity with ability to grasp and perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, and fingers for extended periods of time
• Close visual acuity to focus on and/or read data and words on a computer monitor for extended periods of time
• Ability to perform sedentary work for extended periods of time; standing and walking occasionally required

Qualifications of the Position:
• 5+ years of professional marketing and leadership experience and a B.S. in Marketing, Communications or related field
• Demonstrated business acumen including: strategy, finance and operations.
• Previous experience creative writing/editing and professional publishing, and knowledge of desktop publishing
• English proficiency. Strong organizational and communication skills (spoken, listening, & written).
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities
• Ability to meet deadlines, coordinate projects and work varied hours and days.
• Ability to influence others, drive innovation and change while confronting and resolving conflict positively.
• Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. High ethical standards with personal integrity.
• Demonstrated objectivity, neutrality, and calmness under pressure and timely follow-through to commitments
• Detail oriented and able to multi-task and remain flexible to the changing needs of the business
• Excellent time management, organizational and communication (oral, aural, & written) skills with open availability
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Regular, predictable attendance
