Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

A well-established Geological and Material Testing company is seeking a highly qualified and motivated General Manager for its operations in the GCC. The General Manager position reports to the Managing Director and the Board of Directors of the Company.

Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

- Responsible for all Geotechnical and Material testing laboratory and site work/activities
- Managing and guiding all daily laboratory activities
- Provide guidance, leadership, and technical expertise in interpreting test results and guiding the preparation of professional reports/summaries
- Responsible for the proper, timely and efficient maintenance of all laboratory equipment, and facilities.
- Ensure the laboratory is compliant with QA/QC best practices
- Personally, undertake all key prospect development and business development activities
- Personally, manage key client relationships and upselling

Government Relations

- Ensure compliance with all government rules and regulations relating to the business, manpower, and fire & safety
- Maintain and develop strong government contacts and relationships to facilitate the smooth operation of the company and the sustainability of revenue

Financial Planning & Execution

- Guide the preparation of meaningful annual budgets, sales targets, and proper forecasting
- Conduct monthly business and financial reviews to ensure achievement of all business and financial plans
- Maximize profitability through innovation, process improvement, and meaningful pricing
- Prepare and conduct quarterly business and financial briefings to the board of directors

Human Capital

- Ensure effective management and supervision of all company human resources.
- Ensure the company establishes and utilizes effective and suitable performance management systems/processes to ensure accountability and talent development
- Ensure appropriate training and development is undertaken to raise the caliber of the company’s human capital
- Ensure effective and efficient utilization of the company’s human capital
- Prepare and execute a suitable succession planning program for key positions/functions.

Management of Staff & Other Resources

- Review and set work priorities across the company to achieve business objectives.
- Effectively oversee all issues/agreements relating to vendors, suppliers, service delivery, counter-parties etc.

Contribution to the Company

- Establish and enforce proper and well documented, updated, and relevant company policies and procedures
- Lead and participate in projects, committees and working groups, as required.
- Perform other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.

Requirements

- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is essential; A postgraduate qualification is preferred
- A minimum of 10 years senior experience in geotechnical engineering, with at least 5 years in managing laboratory analysis and testing.
- Experience in managing full-scale projects from start to finish
- Organisational change management and managing complex projects across organizations is essential.
- Experienced with quality management systems and committed to continuous business improvement principles.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- An affiliation with professional body preferred
