Job description / Role
A waiter (or server) is responsible for providing excellent customer service in a restaurant or dining establishment. Their primary duties involve taking orders, serving food and beverages, and ensuring a positive dining experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Greeting and Seating Guests: Welcome customers warmly as they arrive and guide them to their tables.
• Taking Orders: Listen carefully to customers' orders, answer any questions about the menu, and input the orders accurately into the system.
• Serving Food and Drinks: Deliver food and drinks to customers in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring that all items are correct.
• Providing Recommendations: Offer suggestions to customers on food and beverage pairings and help them make choices from the menu.
• Ensuring Customer Satisfaction: Check in with customers during their meal to ensure they are satisfied with their food and service.
• Handling Payments: Process payments, either by cash or card, and provide change if necessary. Sometimes responsible for handling tips.
• Clearing Tables: After customers finish their meals, clear dishes, wipe down tables, and prepare for new customers.
• Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the dining area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies, such as napkins, condiments, and silverware.
• Collaborating with Kitchen Staff: Communicate effectively with the kitchen to ensure timely and accurate preparation of food orders.
• Upselling: Encourage the sale of higher-margin items like drinks, desserts, or specials.
Requirements:
Skills and Qualities:
• 2+ years of experience in same role
• Communication: Strong ability to interact with customers and team members clearly and politely.
• Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple tables and tasks simultaneously without compromising service quality.
• Attention to Detail: Ensuring orders are correct and customers' needs are met.
• Physical Stamina: The role often involves standing, walking, and carrying heavy trays for long periods.
• Customer Service: A friendly and approachable attitude to create a positive experience for guests.
• Time Management: Prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
