Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities:
· Responds to stray animal calls within 15 minutes.
· Uses appropriate methods and techniques to capture stray animals.
· Conduct humane trapping activities for stray/wild animals.
· Assist Government with drugged baits, darting, or other tranquilizing methods with supervision from the Fort Irwin Veterinarian and Directorate of emergency Services personnel.
· Scan animals for microchips.
· Develops and maintains a daily log of all animals captured to include species, sex, estimated age, whether micro-chipped or not, date of capture, and final disposition.
· Submits copy of daily log of stray animal capture to CR, COR, and C no later than the 5th working day of each month.
· Takes captured animals to the Fort Irwin Veterinary Services clinic within two hours of capture.
· Post pictures/messages of stray animals on the Fort Irwin Animal Control Facility Facebook page.
· Upon identification of the animal owner, will draft a letter, in accordance with paragraph 6. e. of United States Army Garrison, Fort Irwin and National Training Center Policy #5, Control of and Care for Privately Owned Animals on Fort Irwin, for submittal to the CR. Submit letter no later than five (5) days after owner pick-up of stray animal and shall be submitted digitally in MS Word format.
· Helps operate, clean, and disinfect Animal Control Facility
· Conducts outreach to all personnel who bring pets onto the installation articulating pet owner responsibilities and proper care and management of their pets while on the installation.
· Cleans/disinfects stray animal control truck.
· Ensures all deliverables are met. Deliverables include quality control plan, stray animal survey subdivision map, quarterly stray animal survey work plan, stray animal survey report, stray animal monitoring report, stray animal capture log, stray animal owner contact log, control and care of privately owned animals, stray animal transfer log, stray animal public reporting procedures, care and treatment of pets news articles, verification of rabies vaccination/blood titer testing of employees, ACF facility cleaning log, and the monthly status report.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily)
· High School Diploma, required
· A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Animal Control Services or other related specialty, preferred
· A minimum of Three (3) years of experience in managing Federal contracts, preferred
· Valid Driver’s License, required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge on methods/protocols established by California Department of Fish and Wildlife, San Bernardino County and the Army/Fort Irwin, preferred.
· Animal caretaker knowledge and skills, preferred.
· Animal control knowledge and skills, preferred.
· Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
· Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
· Must be adept at anticipating and meeting the expectations associated with managing multiple priorities, expectations, programs, relationships.
· Must demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
· Experience with managing the work of others
· Experience managing SCA contract employees, desirable

· During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
