beIN MEDIA GROUP LLC was incorporated in January 2014 and became the official owner of the global sports network, beIN Sports. The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of beIN Media Group is Nasser Al-Khelafi. The company is a Private Institution for Public Benefit by as established by the Emir of Qatar in 2013 under Qatari Sports Investments which is operated by Al Jazeera Media Network.

beIN Sports as a brand was first launched in June 2012 in France. On 31 December 2013, Al Jazeera Sport was spun off from Al Jazeera Media Network and also rebranded as BeIN Sports.beIN SPORTS has 34 channels worldwide including 6 HD channels and broadcasts across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

The strategy, aside from building the beIN premium sports network, is to develop the group's ambitions in sports and entertainment in production, distribution and digital media sectors.

In October 2014, it was announced that beIN Media Group had agreed to acquire pay-TV sports channel Setanta Sports Australia, with Setanta being rebranded as beIN Sports Australia.
