Gabas Albilad Wire Rope Factory is a project selected and developed by Gabas Albilad Holding Company Limited. It is the first steel wire rope factory in Saudi Arabia. The wire rope is a strand of single steel wires twisted together. The exceptional strength makes the wire rope applicable in a wide variety of industries. The applications span the oil and gas exploration, construction, bridges, cranes, marine services, elevators, slings and winches.

The project started after intensive feasibility studies based on Saudi market by Sapco. The licence of the factory was issued on second October 2006. The factory design is approved by Saudi Organization for industrial estates and technology zones. The factory is under construction in Dammam second industrial area with a size of 21,000 m2 and factory building is 8,200 m2. Production capacity is 7,500 tons/ year. The factory targets will be the local suppliers, elevator manufacturers, crane users and manufacturers, port and ship owners, drilling companies, GCC & Neighboring countries market.

The factory is based on simple technology with consultation, technology transfer , engineering, training and machinery including installation, commissioning and international certification by Metal link inc (South Korea). The building is under construction and the machineries is ready in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The factory commissioning will be by the end of 2010 and production of the wire rope will be in the first quarter of 2011.
