The role
We are seeking a forward-thinking Head of Primary & EYFS to lead learning, pastoral care and staff development across Early Years and Primary (Pre-Nurseryu2013Year 6). Reporting to the Principal and working closely with the school leadership team, you will set the strategic direction for teaching and learning, ensure excellent outcomes and well-being for every child, and nurture a thriving professional culture as our school continues to grow. The post holder will be a key member of the school leadership team and a visible ambassador for Asteru2019s values with students, staff and families.
Key responsibilities
- Strategic leadership: Shape and deliver a clear Primary & EYFS vision aligned to the whole-school development goals.
- Teaching & learning: Drive pedagogy, curriculum design and assessment across EYFSu2013Y6 with a team of coordinators; ensure inclusive, high-quality classroom practice and progress for all learners (including EAL and SEND).
- People & culture: Line-manage and coach middle leaders and teachers; support professional learning, performance development and talent growth.
- Safeguarding & well-being: Champion a safeguarding culture; serve on the safeguarding team and work closely with the DSL to ensure robust policy, training and practice; promote behaviour for learning and positive relationships.
- Data-informed improvement: Use iSAMS and assessment tools (e.g., NGRT, CAT4, teacher assessment) to monitor attainment, close gaps and celebrate excellence.
- Community engagement: Build strong partnerships with parents and carers (PTA, class reps, workshops, conferences) and represent Aster at events and networks (e.g., FOBISIA).
- Operations & compliance: Oversee day-to-day Primary & EYFS operations, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment in line with regulatory agencies.
Person specification
- Qualified teacher status and recognised leadership track record in Primary and/or EYFS (e.g., Phase Lead, AHT/Deputy/Head).
- Deep knowledge of the English National Curriculum and the EYFS framework; evidence of raising attainment and improving provision.
- Proven ability to lead and develop staff through coaching and professional learning.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and commitment to child protection and inclusion.
- Excellent communication, cultural competence and parent partnership skills.
- Data-literate, strategic and solutions-focused; calm under pressure; visible, warm and aspirational.
