IT Infrastructure Engineer

Job description / Role

About the role:

The infrastructure engineer will be responsible for the systems and network administration, change management, and supporting the enterprise network. This includes maintenance and support, day-to-day support, incident management, and problem management of all managed IT systems, as well as the ongoing design and implementation of infrastructure changes and enhancements.

Key objectives:

• Deploy, support, and administrate IT infrastructure services and systems, including voice and data networks, MPLS, DPLC, wireless, and multisite mesh networks.
• Monitor and maintain layer 1-7 and provide end-to-end support.
• Design and implement new network solutions and/or improve the efficiency of current networks.
• Install, configure, and support network equipment including routers, switches, SASE gateways, firewalls, WAN accelerators and aggregators, and wireless networks.
• Work on escalated incidents from the IT service desk, ensuring daily meaningful updates, quality troubleshooting steps, and resolution within set SLA’s.
• Manage changes affecting the IT infrastructure in a controlled and auditable manner.
• Ensure continuous improvement and take responsibility for infrastructure projects.
• Keep up to date with the latest technology changes and industry practices.
• Document network infrastructure including hardware/software inventory and network documentation.
• Manage incidents to ensure rapid resolution, including root cause analysis and exploring all possible solutions and associated risks.

Key responsibilities:

• Monitor and report on IT infrastructure and underlying network services.
• Provide 24x7 second-line support and support escalation services.
• Resolve production incidents and underlying causes.
• Accept new systems or changes as fit for release.
• Conduct service reviews with internal teams and suppliers.
• Liaise with third-party suppliers.
• Manage incidents to ensure rapid resolution, including root cause analysis, communication with relevant parties, weighing possible solutions and risks, and ensuring completion of follow-up actions.
• Design and review all network changes.
• Track and resolve single points of failure within the infrastructure.

• Knowledge and experience of data center management, unified communication suites, LANs, WANs, wireless networks, virtualization, and strong understanding of TCP/IP protocol stack and network layers.
• Experience with routing, switching, MPLS networks, firewalls, SASE networks, VPN technologies, system monitoring, and management.
• Exposure to VMware ESX and vCenter 4.x and major virtualization infrastructure solutions.
• Experience with open source technologies including Linux and VoIP telephony systems, with a strong understanding of voice infrastructures.
• Familiarity with IT security tools and techniques.
• Good working knowledge of information governance and its application within IT.
• General understanding of application programming, database, and system design.
• Prior applications integration experience; software as a service integration.

Qualifications and experience:

Degree in computer science or similar discipline.

• Network+, CCNA, CCNP
• MCSE or MCITP plus AWS/Azure certified
• Security+
• ITIL

• Experience working within the industry is desirable.
• Next generation firewalls.
• Mobile device management (MDM).
• Virtualization, VMware, AWS, Active Directory, SSO, SASE.
• LANs, WANs, TCP/IP protocol stack, routing.
• Managing heterogeneous network environments.

• Knowledge of administration and deployment of the following:
• Zscaler
• JumpCloud - MDM
• Sonus voice gateways
• Genesis call center on-premise solution
• Cisco Meraki platform
• Orange MPLS

Experience:

Minimum 3 years experience in a similar capacity working as an IT infrastructure engineer, systems or network administrator for an organization with a minimum of 1000+ users.
