Senior Project Engineer - Sustainability Design

Job Summary
The Senior Project Engineer (Sustainability Design) ensures the adherence of design projects to local and international sustainability standards. He leads the provision of research and technical support to design project teams on topics related to green building engineering and design, with a focus on all aspects of sustainability rating systems such as LEED / Estidama consulting, design and construction strategies. He plays a leading role to raise awareness of K&A design teams and staff through sustainability training sessions and to increase the capability of engineers through sustainability rating (e.g. LEED) certification preparation sessions. The jobholder is expected to work on and handle large development projects until the successful completion of the design certification and required project close-out.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist design teams with sustainable design strategies and technologies for buildings and sites
• Effectively communicate environmental certification program requirements and progress to project teams
• Present in-depth knowledge of LEED / Estidama certification programs and specific knowledge of other green building certification programs such as GSAS, Living Building Challenge (LBC) and Passive House
• Derive sustainability options for new buildings and existing structures
• Conduct financial analysis to assess financial feasibility of sustainability options, including life cycle costs and Returns on Investment
• Develop sustainability models and calculations, including energy optimization, carbon analysis, daylight and shading simulations, glare and reflectivity modeling, microclimate analysis, etc.
• Perform technical analysis in calculations and research as needed to support proof of concept, energy optimization, carbon analysis, daylight and shading design, simulations, water balance modeling, materials recommendations, and drawing and specification review
• Coordinate with / support various internal and external team members, including energy modelers, MEP, civil engineers, general contractor, etc.
• Review building structure and MEP / HVAC systems and operations to certify adherence of Buildings and Structures to environmental KPIs and targets
• Conduct energy audits on buildings in coordination with contractors and site teams
• Monitor energy ratings compared to key KPIs to ensure certification (e.g. LEED) as needed
• Oversee entire LEED / Estidama certification documentation process
• Develop sustainability reports, drawings and findings and present to clients, as needed
• Present project findings to external and internal K&A client counterparts to obtain comments and approvals on findings
• Support the development of project progress reports related to the commissioning scope of work and monitor project progress against schedule and budget
• Implement corporate policies and procedures

• Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture
• Sustainability rating certification (LEED-AP (BD+C) or other specialty, PQP, etc.)
• PMP (Preferable)
• Knowledge of the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry, particularly related to the sustainability field
• Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
• Ability to work under limited supervision
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to review energy modeling analysis reports
• Energy modeling experience a plus, particularly IES/eQuest
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and other 3D software experience
• Proficiency in spoken and written English & Arabic

Specific Experience Required to Execute this Role
• 10+ years of experience in the engineering industry in a top tier / multinational engineering consultancy firm
• Strong experience with sustainability and environmental design and management
