Job description
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the coordination and oversight of traffic studies involving regulatory, warning, and informational signs (e.g., pavement markings, street lighting, traffic signal warrants, school zones, railroad crossings, pedestrian crossings, lane widening), road construction review, and accident analysis to ensure public safety and compliance with local rules and guidelines.
- Ensuring that signs and signals are visible and clearly marked with appropriate instructions for motorists.
- Reviewing, developing, and updating city transportation plans and policies to meet the needs of the community in coordination with clients and consultants.
- Working with contractors or construction crews to adjust traffic flow during major road projects.
- Modeling traffic flows using mathematical techniques and specialist computer applications (PTV Visum, Synchro, Sidra).
- Simulating transport problems using computer models (PTV Vissim), and working out solutions.
- Conducting studies to determine the need for new roads or the improvement of existing ones.
- Monitoring the performance of traffic signals to ensure they are working properly.
- Analyzing traffic data to determine where congestion occurs and recommending solutions to reduce it.
- Performing construction inspections and issuing permits for new construction projects.
- Recommending changes to regulations, such as speed limits or parking regulations, based on engineering studies.
- Preparing reports detailing findings of studies or projects and presenting them.
Personal skills:
- Education: A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related field is typically required. A master's degree in transportation engineering is also desirable.
- Excellent technical report writing skills.
- Excellent command of English.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Very good communication skills.
- Very good presentation skills.
- Very good coordination skills.
Technical skills:
- Very good experience in designing, installing, developing, and implementing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
- Excellent computer skills, including PTV Vissim, PTV Visum, Synchro, Sidra, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or Microsoft Office.
- Good knowledge of PTV Vissim, PTV Visum, Synchro, Sidra.
- Good understanding of transport issues.
