Client is looking for someone to hit the ground running and enhance the team. The Resident Engineer will be working on road construction. They will be involved in project management, design and construction and run a team of individuals. This role is based in Ethiopia and the candidate is expected to have at least 5 years of relevant experience in Sub Saharan African Countries.
Paramount to success within this varied role will include;
• Overall management of the project site.
• Coordinate, direct and supervise the supervision staff activities.
• Carefully analyze the plan, specification, and also examine the entire area of the proposed construction.
• Make himself familiar with the contractor’s plan of operation and scheduled progress.
• Promote a team spirit within the site organization including the contractor’s staff with the common goal of completion of the work with no cost and time over runs.
• Arrange meetings with concerned parties such as public utility authorities, the public works department, and regional authority concerning traffic, service relocation, diversions, pro-gramming and right of way issues, whenever the issues exist, aiming to solve the problem appropriately.
• Maintain a register of all construction drawings issued, including amendments, identification of each amendment, so that at a later date it shall be possible to establish the effective date of each drawing.
• Keep himself update with all changes in contractor’s plans and programming and report all changes to the employer.
• In the event that the contractor is not making satisfactory progress, shall notify the employer accordingly and have his evaluation of the situation in order that appropriate action may be taken.
• Responsible for all official activities of his mandates.
• Instruct personnel to adequately perform their assigned tasks and to assist in training them for more effective performance.
• Advice the contractor to use the appropriate equipment, material, and competent staff for all activities.
• Ensure proper quality control procedures are followed in sampling and testing materials.
• Keep records, daily diary, books plans and other drawings, including “As Built” drawings and incidents well detailed and supported by pictures.
• Responsible for preparing progress reports, check, review and submit all other relevant re-ports.
Requirements
• A minimum of B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering and at least 15 years’ experience in carrying out road design/construction/ rehabilitation.
• 8 years as a Project Manager or Resident Engineer on road construction or rehabilitation projects, out of the 4 years at least 4 years’ experience has to be as a Resident Engineer.
• 4 years’ experience as a Team Leader/Highway Engineer on road design or design man-agement projects.
• 5 years of relevant experience in Sub Saharan African countries.
• 2 years’ experience with the firm or its associate within the last five years.
• Fluency in English Language (reading and writing) is a must.
