Purpose of the Job
Development of greenfield/brownfield projects + M&A in compliance with Company’s investment criteria.

Reporting

The Business Developer will report to the Head of Business Development (Centralized Generation Projects) India.
Key Accountabilities

Watch & Assess
• Be accountable for and watch and assess best practices in business development in infrastructure industry.
• Pursuing the identified BD opportunities.
• Carry out proactive prospection and screen/evaluate BD opportunities.

Policies, Objectives & KPI’s
• Support the making of the business strategy and the long-term development plan (both CAPEX and development budget).
• Be accountable for personal target and KPI.

Procedures, methods & sharing
• Propose and implement best practices.
• Contribute to define regional BD procedures, methods and documentation.
• Comply with all BD procedures.

Planning
• Contribute to the yearly budget development plan (both CAPEX and development budget).
• Define with BDO a workable timetable for approval milestones (ACC, BCC, ICC, CDE …).
• Be accountable for delivering the relevant and required internal project documents on time at each milestone.

Implementation
Be accountable for Greenfield development, merger or acquisition of Independent Power (Natural/Re-gasified Gas, Solar PV or CSP, Wind, Hydro) projects, Cogen, LNG terminal or City Gas Distribution projects in a PPA or Merchant power or combined mode. The responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:

Pre-development phase:

• Produce, present and get approval of Advanced Notice (AN) by the relevant Investment Committees
• Prepare the pre-development and development budget.
• Present and get binding approval of the Investment Note (IN) by relevant Investment Committees.
• Identify and propose partnerships to CBD for a given project.

Development phase:
• Lead/Support the development team which is innovative and creative in solution approach and proactive internally and externally to get the deal done within the approved investment criteria.
• Hold cross function team meetings, define each participants role, his/her contribution to the whole and set up activity milestones.
• Plan development and estimate internal & external resources.
• Negotiate and manage partnerships.
• Lead the negotiations of SHA, PPA, Trading and Sales Agreements, EPC and O&M contracts or sub-contracts.
• Build up project documentation (assumptions book AB, Investment Note/presentation etc.) in line with the investment criteria agreed with the CBD and the regional management.
• Perform Risk analysis.
• Perform periodic internal project review, Support project review.
• Finalize AN and Investment Note (IN) and obtain CBD approval.
• Support the CBD and the Regional organization for presenting the IN for investment approval.
• Support the CBD and the Regional organization for presenting the IN for CDE’s investment approval.

Final development phase:
• Sign off the development check-sheet with the development team before investment commitment.
• Final development activities, negotiation and execution of relevant project documents and agreements.
• Achieve Financial Closing of the Project.
• Produce compliance memo.
• Perform a look-back of the project at PCOD +1 year to compare the status of the project compared to investment criteria.
• At Financial close or at close of an acquisition, transfer to Construction Asset Management Group for smooth transition.

Monitor & Report
• Be accountable for and preparation of look-backs of projects approved and implemented
• Organize and have BD meetings to perform project reviews.
• Ensure timely and adequate reporting.

Audit & Control
• Organize and follow up ad-hoc audits.

Requirements

Qualifications
• Undergraduate University degree in Economics, Finance or Engineering, preferably with an MBA

Experience
• A minimum of 9-12 years’ experience in the electricity generation market with at least 10 years of experience in the IPP project development or acquisition, preferably in emerging markets. Exposure to renewables project development and having experience in the entire development life cycle (land identification, siting, deal structuring, EPC negotiations, PPA negotiations, project implementation) will be highly preferred.
• Mergers/Acquisitions/Asset valuation experience will be highly preferred
• Familiarity and deep understanding of current costing/pricing benchmarks in the wind and solar industry

Knowledge and Skills
• Renewable technologies like Wind, Solar (PV essential and additionally, CSP preferred) and Biomass fuels will be a plus.
• Leadership skills in Contract negotiations (EPC, PPA, SHA, Financing …).
• Good understanding of solar and wind resource assessment philosophies
• Familiarity with project planning and scheduling software (e.g. MS Project and Primavera)
• Advanced user of MS excel, PowerPoint and word.
• A good understanding of how a Financial Model behaves in different circumstances.

Business Understanding
• Local energy policies (at the central and state level in India) and local regulatory frameworks.
• “Multi-package” and “EPCM” mode of implementation
• Group’s governance and ethical rules.

Language
• Fluent in English and Hindi. Knowledge of another Indian language will be a big plus.

Location & Travel
• Gurgaon, Delhi (INDIA) / frequent travel within India, sometimes to Dubai and possibly to other countries within MESCAT, and interaction, as required, with the Group’s expertise centres in Brussels and Paris
