Job Summary

The Public Transport Planner - Transportation Planning is responsible for managing multi-modal transportation planning projects, and is responsible for all transportation planning activities, including master plans, traffic forecasts, surveys, feasibility studies, business cases and FEED for all transport sectors globally in K&A: bus, BRT, light rail, metro, heavy rail, HSR, airports and maritime ports. The jobholder is primarily responsible for being a project manager on planning projects, as well as developing capabilities in the Bangalore design center. The jobholder may also be involved in establishing project management offices on the client side with all required processes and procedures to develop infrastructure and manage operations, to develop and promote the business, oversee delivery, enforce policies and procedures, ensure quality, manage cost, capacity and utilization within the transportation planning sector. The jobholder preferably also has experience from bus/BRT operations, business cases and network restructuring, and can attract, develop and standardize transportation planning capabilities within the Bangalore design center. The jobholder shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the Transportation Planning space and represent the firm as a specialist in the professional engineering communities and international forums.

- Manage projects on time and budget and reporting of KPI's
- Provide input for the development of the Transportation Sector strategic and business plan, including sales projections, market trends, project opportunities
- Develop the Transportation Planning Department budget and raise to the Director - Transportation Planning for review
- Track capacity and report on utilization levels of Transportation Planning Department staff as per targets set by the VP / Senior Director - Transportation and the Director - Transportation Planning, and manage resources accordingly
- Represent the organization on transportation planning topics and contribute to enhancing the brand name and reach of the firm in the market
- Support the business development and marketing of K&A transportation planning capabilities to clients in Geographies, in coordination with Geography Managers
- Support preparation of proposals
- Present design outcome to clients, as needed
- Ensure client satisfaction with transportation planning deliverables prepared in the Bangalore design center
- Lead client facing on transportation planning projects, manage projects and ensure decision-making processing leading to client buy-in and approval.
- Establish and manage the Transportation Planning Department targets included in the Transportation Sector business plan
- Lead the design activities for Transportation Planning projects covering all modes including traffic forecasts and operations
- Guide the development of transport operations studies, including station location studies, intermodal studies and highway studies
- Provide input on the Transportation Planning Department capacity and capability to deliver projects, outsourcing needs, expert knowledge and man-hour estimates during the proposal development stage
- Recommend and engage specialty suppliers for the Transportation Planning Department, as required
- Assign Transportation Planning experts and engineers to project teams, as required by project scope, in coordination with Project Managers
- Assign Transportation Planning experts and engineers to projects in Geographies, in coordination with Geography Managers
- Oversee design development of the Transportation Planning teams in the Bangalore design center during conceptual stages (Master Plan, Feasibility Study and FEED)
- Provide technical advice to Project Managers and design teams, during all design stages, including design development, design review, design coordination, value engineering and design validation, as required
- Review deliverables prepared by the Transportation Planning Department and ensure correct implementation of quality control measures
- Lead value engineering activities for deliverables prepared in the Transportation Planning Department
- Ensure close coordination and knowledge sharing between the Transportation Planning Department and Transportation Planning sections in other design centers within the K&A network through periodic meetings
- Enforce corporate policies and procedures in the Transportation Planning Department
- Research Transportation Planning market trends and ensure that the Transportation Planning Department is at the forefront of technology and capabilities trends
- Ensure consistency and high performance of the Transportation Planning Department staff
- Develop manpower plan for the Transportation Planning Department and submit to the Director - Transportation Planning for review
- Recommend hiring and termination of Transportation Planning Department staff, and raise to the Director - Transportation Planning for review
- Ensure that all new joiners in the Transportation Planning Department are inducted and trained on K&A's methodologies, design standards and quality procedures'
- Ensure the execution of staff evaluation as part of project close-out activities in coordination with respective Project Managers
- Develop training plan and technology upgrade requests for the Transportation Planning Department and submit to the Director - Transportation Planning for review
- Upload the Transportation Planning deliverables into the K&A knowledge management system in accordance with corporate policies and in coordination with Project Managers
- Contribute to a healthy work environment for employee

Requirements

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Master's Degree in Transport Planning or Engineering is preferred
- Chartered Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred
- Strong project management skills
- In depth knowledge of the Transportation Planning industry
- Sound knowledge of Transportation Planning regulations and design requirements
- Understanding of international engineering standards and codes
- Marketing and sales skills and track record in developing relationships with customers
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and managerial skills
- Proficiency in spoken and written English; Arabic is an advantage

Experience Required to Execute this Role

- 15+ years of industry experience in Engineering and Transportation Planning of which at least 10 years are in a Project Manager role
- 15+ years of experience in Transportation Planning or proven track record in a leadership position at a design, engineering and project management consultancy firm
- Strong experience and track record in managing large and complex multi-modal Transportation Planning projects
- General experience in coordinating with other engineering disciplines typically involved in Transportation Planning projects
- Experience with operational studies, namely in bus, BRT, and restructuring of bus networks and operations
- Experience with station location studies, intermodal studies and highway corridor studies
- Exposure to global best practices and trends in Engineering and Transportation Planning industry
- Significant industry experience within the Middle East is preferred
