Senior Engineer - Sustainability Design

Job description / Role

The Senior Engineer Sustainability Design ensures the adherence of design projects to local and international sustainability standards. He leads the provision of research and technical support to design project teams on topics related to green building engineering and design, with a focus on all aspects of sustainability rating systems such as LEED / Estidama consulting, design and construction strategies. The jobholder is expected to work on and handle non-complex development projects until the successful completion of the design certification and required project close-out under the guidance of the Senior Project Engineer Sustainability Design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AREAS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE ROLE:

• Ensure responsibilities are fulfilled with a high quality and in a cost-effective manner
• Lead sustainability charrettes and / or LEED meetings, and interact with clients as a primary project’s contact for the sustainability / LEED / Estidama scope of work for non-complex projects.
• Support the management of client relations and, including the management and response to client inquiries on technical and contractual issues.
• Ensure client satisfaction with the sustainability services, as required by project scopes and clients’ requirements.
• Ensure provision of high quality sustainability services to internal counterparts in the firm
• Maintain and update a repository of relevant regional sustainability-related regulations, codes and programs (e.g. ESTIDAMA)
• Assist design teams with sustainable design strategies and technologies for buildings and sites for non-complex projects.
• Effectively communicate environmental certification program requirements and progress to project teams.
• Derive sustainability options for new buildings and existing structures for non-complex projects
• Conduct financial analysis to assess financial feasibility of sustainability options, including life cycle costs and Returns on Investment for non-complex projects.
• Coordinate with / support various internal and external team members, including energy modelers, MEP, civil engineers, general contractor, etc.
• Review building structure and MEP / HVAC systems and operations to certify adherence of Buildings and Structures to environmental KPIs and targets.
• Conduct energy audits on buildings in coordination with contractors and site teams.
• Support the development of project progress reports related to the commissioning scope of work and monitor project progress against schedule and budget.
• Implement corporate policies and procedures

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Architecture.
• Engineers having extensive knowledge to expert level in Daylight analysis, Climate analysis, Passive house performance analysis and facade Engineering.
• LEED AP accreditation is a Plus.
• Senior Engineer having minimum 7+ years of relevant experience with B.Arch.
• Architecture and a master's degree in building performance simulation or sustainable design are required.
• 5+ years of experience in the engineering industry in a top tier / multinational engineering consultancy firm.
• Strong experience with sustainability and environmental design and management.
• Sustainability rating certification (LEED-AP (BD+C) or other specialty, PQP, etc.)
• Knowledge of the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry, particularly related to the sustainability field.
• Ability to review energy modeling analysis reports.
• Energy modeling experience a plus, particularly IES/eQuest.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and other 3D software experience.
• Strong experience with sustainability and environmental design and management.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; Arabic is an advantage.
