Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and support the development and functioning of youth substance use prevention and tobacco prevention coalitions in at least three school communities; support youth coalition work addressing problem behaviors, as well as underlying risk and protective factors.
• Build partnerships with target community groups, coalition groups, and community members to support community change, including policy advocacy initiatives.
• Work with organizations and groups to identify and implement sustainable approaches to address tobacco and other substance use issues among youth, especially youth from priority populations.
• Assist with media and health communication campaigns to raise public awareness about tobacco and substance use-related concerns, including risk and protective factors. Advocate for evidence based solutions, including policies to protect youth from substance use, including tobacco and other substances.
• Ensure all interventions are culturally appropriate and effective. Conduct educational presentations for youth and adult community groups, organizations, government leaders, educators and other community leaders. Attend community events. Coordinate and implement outreach activities to promote tobacco control, substance use prevention and community health resources within the community, with an emphasis on health disparity impacted communities.

Requirements

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Must have a minimum of one year of experience conducting youth engagement, youth empowerment, positive youth development or similar strategies with youth ages 12-18.
• Must have a minimum of one year of experience working with coalitions or doing community-centered work to build
effectiveness and increase participant/community engagement.
• Prefer applicants with experience working in tobacco prevention/control or substance abuse prevention programs or
coalitions using evidence- based models/approaches.
• Prefer applicants with experience working with diverse communities and/or who have experience working to support healthier
communities through policy or systems change approaches.
• Bilingual Spanish speakers are highly preferred.
• Experience working with health disparity affected populations is preferred.
• Must attend and pass State Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership training modules: Tobacco Basics - Eliminating
Disparities, Marketing 101 and Evaluation 101 within 6 months.
