Wood is currently recruiting for a HSE officer (Iraq National) to join its Iraq business unit focusing on overseeing safety practices, risk management, and compliance for a major onshore brownfield project in Basra, Iraq.

This is a full-time onsite position in Basra, Iraq, on a 6/1 work schedule.

This is a full-time onsite position in Basra, Iraq, with possible travel.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HSE officer to join our Iraq Business Unit.

Wood has been awarded an onshore brownfield project to support an international client operation for delivering FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning services. This project focuses on enhancing degassing stations, optimizing flare systems, and integrating low-carbon solutions to support our client's energy transition and emissions reduction goals.

  • Key objectives

  • Support Safety Advisor
  • Report to Safety Advisor daily any issues concerning safety compliance, and provide written reports weekly on operational safety related topics
  • Ensure a system is in place to be notified immediately of any incidents
  • Update systems in place in alignment with needs and requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Responsible for overseeing safety practices, risk management, and compliance within an organization
  • Ensuring that LSA life saving actions are applied at the workplace
  • Involve in the incident investigation process
  • Execute safety programs consistent with Wood and client expectations
  • Back up to the Safety Advisor
  • Participate in safety meetings and prepare presentations as required
  • Audit permit to work and HITRA regularly
  • Conduct field safety observations
  • Train and assist operations personnel on safety programs (i.e. toolbox, safety meetings, etc.)
  • Execute safety initiatives and prepare documentation (safety alerts, safety newsletter, safety focus, etc.)
  • Conduct daily activities in support of operations (gas testing, safety monitoring)
  • Be part of continuous training and development programs
  • Daily safety reports to Safety Supervisor
  • Gas detection equipment calibration
  • Track, monitor, and analyze safety trends (i.e. green cards, JSA, PTW, etc.)
  • Relevant experience with road safety
  • Review lifting plans and set recommendations
  • Review shutdown documents, plans, and procedures in alignment with the safety manual system
  • Conduct risk assessment
  • PPE selection

    Expected:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 5 years' oil and gas industry experience
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Executive legislation
  • Familiarity with safety methodologies and principles
  • Proficiency in Excel and relevant computer applications
  • Understanding of personal and process safety
  • Knowledge and background in safety
  • Assess hazards and risks
  • Incident investigation
  • International HSE qualification such as NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely, OSHA
