Wood is recruiting for an HVAC engineer to join its Iraq business unit focusing on designing, implementing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, and residential projects for a major onshore brownfield project in Basra, Iraq on a 5/2 work schedule.
This role is a full-time on-site role in Basra, Iraq with travel requirements.

Job objectives
We are looking for a skilled and experienced HVAC engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
This role requires a deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and energy efficiency principles, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with architects, contractors, and other engineers. As an HVAC engineer, you will be expected to conduct site inspections, perform load calculations, select appropriate HVAC equipment, and ensure that all systems comply with local building codes and environmental regulations.
You will also be responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings and specifications, using CAD software and other engineering tools. In addition to technical expertise, strong project management and communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations
- Select and specify HVAC equipment and components
- Prepare technical drawings and documentation using CAD software
- Ensure compliance with building codes and environmental regulations
- Conduct site inspections and assessments
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers
- Oversee installation and commissioning of HVAC systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC system issues
- Provide technical support during construction phases
- Develop energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions
- Manage project timelines and budgets

Expected:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC design and engineering
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software
- Strong knowledge of HVAC codes and standards
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Experience with energy modeling and sustainability practices
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
