About the Company:
China Petroleum & Pipeline Engineering Co. (CPP Engineering) is a leading EPC contractor specializing in oil & gas pipeline systems, infrastructure development, and integrated energy solutions worldwide.
We are currently seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer who is willing to relocate to Iraq to support operations and maintenance at a Sour Gas Processing Plant within the Rumaila Oilfield project.
Role Overview:
The Instrument Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems within a sour gas processing environment.
This is a site-based role requiring strong technical expertise, strict adherence to HSE standards, and the ability to work in challenging oilfield conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance of plant instrumentation systems.
2. Ensure compliance with international standards (API, ASME, ISO, IEC) and company HSE policies.
3. Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation faults in sour gas processing systems.
4. Calibrate transmitters, control valves, shut-off valves, and analytical instruments.
5. Maintain and update technical documentation, calibration records, and O&M reports.
6. Coordinate with operations, mechanical, electrical, QA/QC, and HSE teams.
7. Support commissioning and acceptance of new or repaired instrument systems.
8. Prepare technical reports and maintenance progress updates.
9. Participate in emergency response and risk mitigation planning.
Requirements:
Working Conditions:
1. On-site role based in Rumaila Oilfield, Iraq.
2. Must be willing to work in a sour gas processing environment.
3. Rotational project schedule (as per company policy).
4. Strict adherence to safety regulations and PPE requirements.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Automation, Measurement & Control, or related field.
Experience:
1. Minimum 6 years of experience in oil & gas instrumentation O&M.
2. Mandatory hands-on experience in sour gas or acid gas processing plants.
3. Experience in onshore oil & gas plant maintenance projects.
4. Middle East project experience preferred.
Technical Skills:
1. Strong knowledge of DCS/PLC systems.
2. Experience with pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters.
3. Familiar with toxic gas detection and explosion-proof instrumentation.
4. Skilled in valve calibration and use of Hart 475 / signal generators.
5. Proficient in AutoCAD, EPLAN, P&ID software, SAP, MS Project.
Certifications (Preferred):
NEBOSH, API certification, ISO Auditor, Instrument Calibration certification, PMP (plus).
Language:
Fluent English required.
