Senior Urban Planner

Job description / Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Urban Planner to review the design provided by the contractors and make the necessary coordination with the stakeholders and authorities to ensure that detailed designs are compatible with the architectural and urban characteristics of the city and related to the directives and specifications made.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead urban planning efforts for infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with the city’s architectural and urban standards
• Develop urban plans, zoning regulations, and land-use strategies that comply with project directives
• Coordinate with experts and authorities to align contractor designs with urban planning objectives
• Act as the primary contact for urban planning matters, ensuring effective communication between all parties
• Monitor the construction process to ensure adherence to approved plans and standards
• Conduct site visits to assess progress, safety, and environmental compliance
• Work with project engineers to resolve technical challenges and integrate urban planning principles
• Ensure all project aspects comply with relevant urban planning and environmental regulations.
• Coordinate with regulatory bodies to secure necessary permits and approvals
• Implement quality control measures to ensure construction meets high safety, durability, and functionality standards
• Review and approve project designs and construction plans for consistency with urban planning goals
• Conduct post-construction evaluations to identify lessons learned for future projects

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Urban Planning
• Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in urban development, including international experience
• Proven experience with infrastructure projects, particularly bridges and roads
• Strong knowledge of urban planning principles, zoning regulations, and land-use policies
• Exposure to global best practices and trends in urban planning
• Proficiency in urban planning and design software
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions under pressure
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels
• Fluent in Arabic and English
