Job overview

Start date: November 2025
Working hours: Monday - Friday, 8.00am - 4.00pm (37.5 hours per week)
Term time only

Cove School is a leading educational establishment within Hampshire local authority, committed to providing a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for pupils. Cove School is Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ for behaviour. Grounded in the values of care, character, and academic excellence, Cove School aims to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped for success in both academic and vocational pursuits.

We are seeking an individual who is an enthusiastic, innovative and approachable Behaviour Support Assistant to work with the Head of Years and the wider staff team in ensuring high levels of consistency in behaviour for learning and pupil support across the school.

We are looking to develop the pastoral team further by providing both proactive and reactive support to students and teachers via our Behaviour/Inclusion Team. This is a 3-person team, with collective responsibility for responding to ‘on-call’ incidents, managing our centralised sanction system and most importantly conducting both proactive and reactive measures to support pupils in developing and owning their positive behaviour attributes.

The role advertised is particularly focused on supporting pupils in difficult situations via our on-call system; however, it also includes planning and leading interventions for pupils identified as needing additional behavioural support, as well as some administrative work in ensuring the centralised sanctions are managed correctly.

This role is an exciting opportunity to work with the wider school community, staff and parents in supporting student progress and behaviour for learning across the school.

The successful candidate will need excellent interpersonal skills and be confident in dealing with students, staff and parents on a day-to-day basis. They must have a desire to support pupils to achieve their best both in and out of the classroom, with a ‘never give up’ attitude. They must also have a calming presence across the school, showing empathy in tough situations, responding with a kind but firm approach.

They will have to have excellent communication skills, a good sense of humour and sound administrative skills.

Application procedure

Please complete the attached application form, which can be found near the bottom of the page under 'Attached Documents'.

Disclaimer: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we reserve the right to close a vacancy earlier than the advertised date if we receive applications that meet the criteria. Cove School and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
