Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform within high standards of nursing care, ensuring that nursing objectives are achieved using a systematic approach to evidence based nursing care & practice.
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualized patient centered care.
- Prepare equipment and Assist M.D. with invasive procedures.
- May perform specialized nursing procedures related to the unique needs of the assigned unit
- Communicate with M.D.’s regarding patient response to treatments and care.
- Serves as the primary resource person for all matters related to assigned patient care.
- Promote an environment that enables patient safety, independence, quality of life and dignity for critically ill patient.
- Demonstrate ability to respond to patient and family education needs in a resourceful and innovative manner using all available tools and resources at his/her disposal
- Be sure of the consent, results, there is blood in blood bank & all pre-operative check list items are ready.
- Receive patient from operation room and check carefully for any signs of bleeding, check drains and tubes.
- Responsible for DDA checking, dispensing, administering and keep the key with her /him at all time and handling narcotics as per policy.
- Check crash cart and defibrillator according to policy.
- Attend Doctors rounds / attend to doctor's needs / delegate nurse to attend with doctor.
- Carry out all doctors' orders and endorse them to the assigned nurses.
- Check & communicate new or changed orders to patient care nurse.
- Actively participate in staff development, performance reviews, and educational activities as designed by the nursing administration
- Assist the unit Manager in the effective implementation of the unit’s orientation Programs.
- Involve when needed in innovative activities within nursing department (i.e.: Excellence Nursing awards, nursing Evidence based practice, nursing Quality & patient safety activities).
- Prepare and deliver formal and informal teaching in both classroom and clinical setting, utilizing evidence-based materials related to the critical nursing care.
- Perform role of preceptor for new staff, and for student nurses as required.
- Engage in regular performance reviews, utilizing feedback constructively to improve practice. Ensure knowledge and skills are up to date and evidence-based.
- Adhere to and support all defined standards, processes, policies and procedures.
- Support and participate in quality initiatives and the accreditation process.

Requirements

Education
ESSENTIAL:
- BSc. in Nursing
- Nursing License
- Computer Literate
- Valid BLS

DESIRABLE:
- Post registration specialty qualification/experience
- Master degree in critical care for the critical care nurses
- Evidence of continuous education and professional development document.
- ACLS

WORK EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:
- Minimum of 4 years
- Demonstrated competency in English language proficiency, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

DESIRABLE:
- More than 6 years
- Post registration specialty experience
