Electrical Design Engineer

Job description / Role

Job purpose

Perform study and design of protection and control panels tasks efficiently, in a timely manner and quality standards as per the defined policies and procedures to achieve departmental operational plans and developments.

Key accountability areas

Project launch and initial preparation:

• Attend project launch meetings as required by the section head.
• Prepare the job file following standard departmental filing procedures.
• Study and evaluate contractual documents received during project launch meetings.

Design and drawing responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the design section manager to agree on and discuss project schedules.
• Utilize design software to create accurate and compliant electrical drawings.
• Ensure adherence to standard drawing formats and symbols during drawing preparation.

CAD and drawing verification:

• Supervise CAD operators (when assigned) to transform technical data into panel layouts, one-line diagrams, civil work guides, and schematic designs in AutoCAD format.
• Verify the accuracy and completeness of AutoCAD drawings, ensuring all necessary design considerations are included.
• Check and issue bills of materials (BOMs) for long-lead materials within one day of receiving the IPO in SAP.
• Release balance materials within one week of receiving the IPO.

Production coordination:

• Ensure stock materials are used wherever technically acceptable to minimize non-moving stock levels.
• Prioritize production releases based on monthly plans.
• Ensure BOMs match between SAP and production drawings.
• Release production drawings according to the agreed schedule.
• Provide the latest production drawings to the mechanical team for MMR issuance per the agreed schedule.

Technical support:

• Provide technical support to production and quality control teams as needed.

• Ability to obtain updated soft and technical skills related to the job.

Delivery:

• Perform the planned activities to meet the operational and development targets as per delivery schedules.
• Utilize resources effectively to achieve objectives within efficient cost and time.
• Provide a periodic report formatted by detailing the deviation and execution of planned tasks.

Problem-solving:

• Solve any related problems that arise and escalate any complex operational issues.

Quality:

• Ensure quality requirements to develop effective quality control and processes including specifications for products or processes or related activities.

Business process improvements:

• Coordinate well-defined written systems, policies, procedures, and seek automation opportunities as much as possible.

Compliance:

• Comply with related policy and procedures and work instructions.

Health, safety, and environment:

• Ensure compliance of relevant safety, quality, and environmental management procedures and controls within defined area of work activity to guarantee safety, legislative compliance, and delivery of high-quality products/services.

Academic qualification

Bachelor degree in electrical engineering

Work experience

4 to 6 years
