Reporting to: Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer

ROLE OBJECTIVE: To design Public Health for various projects, and handle related projects from initiation to closure, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, quality requirements and contract obligations in order to fulfill client requirements.

DETAILED ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards, applicable laws and regulations; assist the Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer in establishing/updating section policies and procedures
• Support the Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer in providing inputs to the proposals department (e.g. man month requirements etc.) regarding the contribution of the Public Health section to projects
• Assist the Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer in the evaluation of proposals submitted by sub-consultants during RFPs issued in order to recommend sub-consultants to owners/clients
• Understand owner/client design requirements prior to the commencement of any design project; coordinate with the Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer and other architects & engineers for further clarifications on design requirements
• Coordinate effectively with other architects and engineers throughout project lifecycles (planning, concept, preliminary, final etc.); review and understand their drawings and specifications to ensure that adequate provisions in Public Health and Fire Protection designs are made based on the designs provided by the other sections
• Assist to develop design requirements from Term of Reference (TOR)
• Check the existing site utilities for connections to formulate and minimize the design
• Assist Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer to prepare Concept Design reports & related documents
• Prepare design sketches for draftsmen to prepare design drawings
• Allocate, prioritize and check the work of a team of Draftsman
• Ensure preparation of accurate design calculations and size of systems
• Select all required equipment in coordination with Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer
• Assist Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer in follow up with ministries for obtaining approvals
• Assist the Q.S. Department in preparing material & quantities take-off reports & cost estimates
• Document, record and report on meetings, progress of jobs and construction completion from design & validation reports received from the project manager
• Incorporate all feedback from projects and customers for design clarification and modifications during the development and construction project phases
• Carry out all Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer duties in his/her absence
• Apply sound knowledge of the latest international codes and make use of engineering software
• Determine required Public Health component/material capacities based on designs
• Coordinate with team members effectively to ensure that all projects progress as planned in order not to cause project delays or budget overruns; ensure to update the Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer with regards to progress in design
• Consult the Senior Plumbing & Firefighting Engineer for gaining any technical guidance as and when required
• Maintain continuous quality control on all drawings produced under the section, ensuring that they adhere to quality standards (e.g. high standards of visual presentation, error-free, properly dimensioned, x-referenced etc.)
• Assist on site Public Health engineers by responding to technical queries which they raise; assist site staff in verifying sample materials submitted by contractors (as and when required) to ensure compliance with ministerial requirements and specifications
• Attend site meetings (e.g. progress meetings, coordination and specially called meetings etc.) as and when required
• Remain abreast on changes in local ministerial requirements regarding Public Health systems
• Protect the confidentiality of all designs within the section at all time
• Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to draftsman and less experienced Structural Engineers

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 6- 8 years’ experience in design and supervision on a construction field

TECHNO-FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
• Knowledge of local laws and regulations
• Knowledge of Tendering procedure, manuals, and related works
• Knowledge of International Standards and Codes
• Knowledge of Engineering software
• Knowledge of CAD software
