Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Director of the Library, the incumbent will assist in the coordination of the daily operations of the library, participate in the development, interpretation, and administration of library policies, procedures, issues, and activities; collaborate with the faculty to provide a variety of library resources and services

Duties:

* Serve as a member of the Library team, participating in discussions, decision-making, and policy making
* Implement library policies and guidelines; respond to in-person, online, and phone queries regarding library services and resources
* Update and maintain patron records; assist patrons in identifying and locating library materials; provide customer service and assist researchers in accessing and using materials in person and virtually
* Collect and record Library fines and fees for overdue and lost Library materials; apply personal restrictions in the ERP, where applicable
* Execute circulation and inter library-loan processes to ensure an efficient and continuous flow of library materials and from library users
* Process inter library loan requests in accordance with inter library loan guidelines
* Conduct general shipping and receiving activities; inventory, arrange, and re-house resources and archival collections according to departmental procedures and archival best practices
* Maintain an orderly services area by shelving or shifting collections, cleaning, equipment maintenance, and moving furniture, as needed
* Conduct library instruction sessions for students, faculty, and staff
* Prepare records, reports, and statistics related to circulation activities and services
* Maintain an inventory of circulation, reserve, and inter library loan supplies and forms; initiate orders/order requests and replenish supplies
* Make sure the library is secure (as part of opening and closing procedures, and ongoing during hours of operation)
* Monitor the condition of library facilities and furnishings; report items that require attention to the Director
* Participate in the library inventory process
* Assist with technical services projects (materials processing, deletions, etc.)
* Update library information on website, social media and signage (including hours signs) and library literature, as needed; create library displays
* Assist in revising and updating Library services policies and staff handbook
* Recruit, assign, and supervise part-time staff and student workers as required
* Serve on various committees or task forces as required
* Alternate schedule, evening and weekend work required
* Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Skills:

* Must possess the skills to be able to explain and demonstrate the essential functions of the position, demonstrated knowledge and experiences within all facets of Library operations
* Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly and effectively at all levels within the College in English; must possess effective presentation skills
* Demonstrated understanding of College and Academic Affairs structure, policies, and procedures particularly as it relates to the critical role of access to information in a college learning environment
* Demonstrated competence and experiences in the application, implementation, and delivery of technology in Library services
* Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard software applications
* Demonstrable high ethical standards especially as it relates to the access and uses of information
* Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple complex projects
* Demonstrated use of sound judgment in decision-making, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
* Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of work-related information and materials
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of professional, students, and constituents
* Ability to work alternate schedule, evening and weekends required

Experience and Education:

* Bachelor's degree required, preferably in the library or information science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent
* Experiences in an academic library, preferably in a higher education setting
* Previous academic library experience in the area of acquisitions preferred
* Evidence of effective collaboration with faculty in the development of collections, digital and traditional
* Experiences in the coordinating and overseeing archive collections
* Evidence of active participation in professional library associations and/or consortia
* Demonstrated excellent organizational, problem-solving, planning, and critical thinking skills
