Professor in Visual Design contributes to the School’s practice-based education and creative research. The role seeks a design practitioner-scholar who integrates visual communication, digital media, and emerging creative technologies within teaching, research, and industry project development and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and teach modules in/related to visual communication, digital design, UX/UI, motion graphics, or animation and visual effects with a strong emphasis on practice-led inquiry.
• Supervise student projects, capstones, and creative theses that demonstrate professional and research rigour.
• Ability to develop innovative curricula aligned with industry needs, digital transformation, and contemporary design discourse.
• Initiate and contribute to practice-based research outputs, exhibitions, creative artefacts, or cross-disciplinary design projects.
• Able to produce written exegesis based on these practice-based research outputs.
• Strengthen partnerships with industry and creative communities to foster co-creation, internships, and live projects.
• Provide academic leadership through programme coordination, mentorship of junior staff, and contribution to institutional committees or quality assurance initiatives.
Requirements:
Requirements for Professor
1) Possess a PhD in Visual Design, Digital Design, Animation, or a closely related field (substantial professional experience required for MA applicants)
2) Proven leadership experience in academia or professional practice.
3) Skilled in innovative teaching methodologies and use of technology in learning.
4) Recognised professional experience or creative practice portfolio demonstrating impact and leadership in design, digital media, and/or animation/vfx.
5) A record of creative or scholarly outputs (e.g., exhibitions, design prototypes, practice-based research publications, industry projects).
6) Proven leadership or coordination experience within academic or creative industry contexts.
7) Strong research track record:
• h-index of more than 10 (preferred)
• Main Supervisor for more than 3 PhD graduates
• More than 10 publications in Q1 and Q2 journals (ISI, SCOPUS,Clarivate) in the last 5 years, as main Author
• Secured more than RM150k to RM200k in research grants as main PI
