JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities
• Directly manage all employees in the medical department, including Veterinary Technicians, veterinary assistants, medical receptionists, volunteers and interns to ensure high quality of animal care and customer service are provided to all
• Foster a team environment by working effectively with all members of other departments to accomplish HSSV goals and objectives
• Create and manage innovative programs and services to improve the level of care for, both, shelter animals and animals in the community
• In conjunction with the Director, Medical Operations, develop and maintain annual operating budget, manage business office function and day to day transactional duties
• Help to develop best practices with the support of other key resources; identifies root causes and solutions via analytical problem solving and presents possible solutions and recommendations clearly and succinctly.
• Assists in the development and installation of procedure and controls to promote high quality standards, communication and information flow across the organization
• Ensure excellent customer service is provided by all staff to internal and external customers

REQUIREMENTS

Requirements
• Strong people management and operational business management, preferably in a veterinary/ animal setting or medical setting
• Previous experience in the safe and humane handling of animals
• Works best in a collaborative and team environment and knows when to ask for assistance from others
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially to a diverse range of audiences and settings
• Excellent trouble shooter with the ability to assess problems, analyze the facts and then make quick and effective decisions in a multitasking environment
• Ability to work closely with management and still be able to do the job without close supervision
• Business degree or equivalent work experience, Bachelor degree and/or RVT ideal but not required
• Passion to understand and uphold the HSSV mission, values, polices and philosophy
• Ability to work a flexible schedule; ability to work weekends
