Simulator Pilot /Technology Specialist

The purpose of the Simulator Pilot / Technology Specialist position is to provide support to, and knowledge about, the technology systems used in the development, administration and delivery of training.

The role is responsible for:
• Installing, maintaining, updating, and backing up simulation and other training related software and systems.
• Installing and maintaining simulation hardware and other training related hardware.
• Working with other technical specialists, customers and simulator operators/pilots to research and provide recommendations for advancements in training IT to assist training delivery.
• Provide helpdesk support for training and product IT systems.
• To simulate the role of a pilot in the training of Air Traffic Control (ATC) trainees (training will be provided).
• To assist Customers with airspace, sector or procedure development;
• To assist and support other simulator staff in key roles;
• Provide technical support for the simulator operations;
• Provide link back into the Tech support team in NZ to resolve major issues;
• Fulfill a sim pilot role, if possible, and train other simulator pilots, as required.
• Manage the sim pilot roster and availability.

The position will commence in November 2018 and will be for evenings only 2pm to 9pm.

REQUIREMENTS

Formal Qualifications / Training / Experience

Required and Desirable:

• Good keyboard Skills and general competence working with software products.
• Previous Air Traffic Systems (ATS) or Flying (CPL) experience.
• Software testing experience
• Software graphic editing experience
• Requirement documentation skills.
• IT/Microsoft qualifications

• Knowledge in and experience applying training compliance.

Essential Criteria:

• Effective Simulation - Able to use background and experience to simulate real world scenarios, makes it realistic not just providing technical content; Demonstrates understanding of air space requirements, navigational aids, emergency procedures and actions; Has ability to understand and anticipate requirements of the ATC situation, and will be one step ahead due to their experience level, knowledge or skill.
• Situational Awareness/Problem Identification - Will effectively interpret commands and instructions and gives the appropriate response, gets technical information correct; Has confidence to initiate the correct action and makes timely decisions with the end goal in mind; Redefines and adapts their solution as the situation unfolds, Able to improvise information in line with scenario as situation evolves; Displays an awareness of the bigger picture.
• Procedural Accuracy – High level of computer interaction skills which enables effective aircraft control. Checks data/plans and identifies errors against known procedures. Deals with errors and takes action to ensure they are not repeated. Identifies when aircraft under control are behaving inappropriately and takes corrective action.
• Communication - Communicates openly and honestly, explaining reasons in a prompt and timely way that people understand and find relevant to their position; is clear and concise, seeking to be understood; anticipates needs of audience and adapts style and communication methods using face to face for difficult issues; listens and seeks to understand others points of view, understands body language; is relentless on what is important, demonstrating enthusiasm and conviction.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Australian College of Kuwait has been established under Kuwait Law 34/2000, governing private universities in Kuwait, to provide internationally recognized and accredited education and training to the Business, Engineering, and Maritime sectors. A 2+2 course is available whereby students obtain their diploma in two years and can then continue, if they wish, to study for a further two years to obtain their degree. This arrangement is unique in Kuwait.
