JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

• Collect samples of soils, aggregates, concrete and other materials which need to be tested and carefully handle them while storing and retrieving them, as well as during and after the testing.
• Register samples according to laid down procedures, under supervision of the concerned Technician.
• Dispose of samples after tests are completed and when instructed to do so by the Laboratory Supervisor, in the manner specified for the material.
• Dispose of water in which samples may have been soaked, in the specified manner, so as not to cause overflow in the drainage system.
• Perform simple sample preparation as instructed by a Technician or Senior Technician.
• Assemble and maintain simple testing equipment under supervision.
• Record test data (Non-accredited tests only) under supervision of a Technician or Senior Technician.
• Perform general housekeeping duties in the laboratory.
• Carry out other laboratory duties (under relevant supervision) as instructed by the Laboratory Manager.

REQUIREMENTS

• Preferable: Graduate in any subject, preferably Chemistry or with Diploma/Certificate in Engineering or Geology.
• High School Certificate is adequate.
• Basic Computer Skills.

Skills / experience required to do the job:
• Testing Experience in an accredited materials laboratory, granular and Asphaltic material.
• Possession of driving license is advantageous.

• Dexterity in handling different equipment, tools, chemicals and samples.
• Accuracy in reading results of tests and recording them correctly, if required.

• Good written and spoken English skills.
• Knowledge of using computers for data entry, if and when required.
