JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Audio-Visual Media Archivist I Services shall meet the following Educational and/or Work Experience requirements:

- Plans, manages, and sets priorities for projects related to the preservation, reformatting, and digitization of the library’s current collection of audiovisual media
- Develops, implements, and documents guidelines and workflows for digitizing audiovisual media currently held on analog supports and DVD formats
- Works closely with audiovisual technicians to support the daily operation of the media produced by video and photo teams
- Monitors digitization activities for quality assurance and integration with digital preservation workflows
- Manages digital preservation activities to ensure enduring access to digital assets over time by establishing file fixity, harvesting technical metadata and managing archival storage on LTO tape
- Assesses physical condition of items in the collection and oversees workflow for basic repairs, cleaning, and rehousing
- Performs circulation tasks such as checking out library materials and equipment
- Conducts surveys and inventories to inform collection development, preservation projects, and maintain physical organization of the collection within the library and off-site storage
- Works independently and with libraries staff to develop and maintain digital collections databases
- Collaborates with Media Archives staff to document and assess policies and procedures for digital content
- Develops, maintains, and expands knowledge of Audio-Visual media and digital media archives, keeping abreast of current trends and emerging standards and best practices in the field through professional literature.

REQUIREMENTS

Service Requirements:

Audio-Visual Media Archivist I Services shall meet the following Educational and/or Work Experience requirements:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to deliver services in a customer-oriented environment
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with partners across library and Media Production Division to manage projects, meet goals, establish deadlines, and conduct quality assurance
- Demonstrated knowledge of analog and digital audiovisual media formats, best practices and standards for digitization and preservation, and knowledge of cataloging standards and metadata schemas
- Familiarity with tools and systems for digital preservation and media asset management
- Proficiency in the use of digital audiovisual editing and processing tools such as FFmpeg, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere, and MPEG Stream clip
- Demonstrated knowledge of library services and systems of organization
- Proficiency in working in Macintosh and Microsoft platforms, and using Microsoft Office or open source office productivity tools
- Ability to learn new technologies, and troubleshoot basic technical problems with audiovisual media and equipment, and computer hardware/software
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required. Graduate level studies in related field strongly preferred with a focus on digital preservation and/or managing film/audiovisual media collections
- At least five (5) years of experience managing circulating collections of audiovisual media in a video library, archive, media resource center, or media production environment.
- Experience and knowledge of audiovisual media formats, digitization workflows and digital media platforms required.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English; Additional Arabic an advantage
- Supervisory experience managing staff
