JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

We are currently looking for a Conflicts Advisor that can join our Compliance Team to be based in our Sharjah office.

The role's main objective is to ensure the firm is complying with conflict checking rules and procedures when taking on new matters, including the evaluation of conflict search results, following up with lawyers and the Conflict of Interest Committee as required, and administering and maintaining the firm's conflict database/system.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Reviewing and analysing conflict search results following initial search by secretary or lawyers
- Following up with secretaries and lawyers to ensure internal discussions are being handled to clear any potential conflicts
- Escalating and liaising with the Head of Quality Assurance/Conflicts Committee as appropriate
- Approving the clearance of conflicts so that the Compliance can open a new matter
- Collating and sending out conflicts emails (regularly during the day) to all lawyers
- Act as a subject matter expert on conflicts procedures and policies
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of the firm's conflict checking systems
- Contribute, as required, to projects aimed at improving compliance knowledge across the firm
- Reviewing engagement terms between the firm and its clients

REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a paralegal or compliance role, ideally within a law firm or a financial institution
- Law degree or other legal qualification or background
- Strong communication skills
- High adherence to policies and procedures
- High level of discretion and confidentiality
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good time management skills to prioritise workloads
- Strong work ethic and sense of ownership and responsibility
- Drives results through teamwork, people, communication and influence
- Comfortable with change, ambiguity, debate, conflict and informed risk taking
- Willingness to make decisions, while ensuring buy in from stakeholders
- Desire for continuous professional development
- Self-motivated
- Organised and systematic
- High level of proficiency in IT systems
