Design Engineer / Sr. Design Engineer - Oil Field & Wellhead Equipments API

Job Purpose

• To design, draft and produce engineering designs and manufacturing drawings for various oil field and wellhead equipment’s used by drilling contractors (upstream) and well services management companies.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

• Create designs of various oil field equipment’s, wellhead equipment’s and associated components using complex mathematics and physics models and plan the whole manufacturing process considering the complexities of assemblies in the processes forward.
• Recognize design defects and identify effective solutions to improve design where necessary within the defined standards for new and repair jobs.
• Validate designs using appropriate software’s and ensure the guidelines are followed.
• Create production drawings from designs based on the standards (API) with complete detailing for machining, fabrication, welding, assembling, sub assembling including part details. welding details, sequence of fabrication, bill of material etc.
• Conduct interdisciplinary checks (IDC) as and when required.
• Perform technical evaluation of installation control and design interface documents of various equipment’s to ensure successful implementation of designs

Design Standards & Calculations

• Interpret clients specifications of the project and international production standards and codes including API
• Develop work processes and procedures in line with international codes and standards specially within the parameters laid down by API for the design of oil field equipment’s, wellhead equipment’s, pressure control equipment’s and associated components, systems and applications.
• Interpret engineering drawings and clients specifications, review and recommend on workability/ develop production repair methods and generate bill of materials.
• Create designs, general assembly drawings, production drawings using Solidworks.
• Perform detailed design calculations for load bearing, pressure containing, pressure control and other related parameters for the oil field equipment’s and wellhead equipment’s being manufactured or remanufactured.
• Advice on the detailed analysis of mechanical equipment’s including vibration, dynamic loads, bearing life, tolerance stack-up and fatigue life
• Analyze and advise on various design calculation for multiple oil field equipment’s and its parts based on application and related connections in the systems.
• Work with multiple design and simulation softwares for calculations and drawings (STAAD, Solidworks, AutoCAD)
• Guide and advice on various materials, properties, workability for various applications and factoring the design safety parameters.

Safety and Risk

• Asses risks related to production activities and related hazards and use this knowledge to identify risks using set formats
• Has a thorough understanding of all risks associated with the production process and can implement mitigating actions.

Tendering and Estimation

• Provide inputs for accurate estimates based on site visits and client requirements and other parameters.
• Review estimates and correct mistakes based on designs changes and reviews.
• Advise based on applications and previous experience for potential design impact on cost.

Systems

• Proficient in using the standard company approved IT systems such as MS Office and EPICOR and has the ability to update the systems with new records and data and produce reports as per the project, department requirements.
• Create a design database using the company EPDM.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Engineering Graduate/Diploma (preferably Mechanical / Production/ Industrial)

Minimum Experience:

•10 to 15 years of experience with over 7 years in the field of design and drafting of oil field equipment’s and associated components.

Job-Specific Skills:

• Good understanding of various API (6A, 16A, 16C, 7-1, 5CT), ASME standards for design conformity and validation and has thorough knowledge of the international standards and codes and plans work to ensure compliance to the customer requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of all kinds of oil field and wellhead equipment’s and their applications in the upstream sector.
• Very good and fluent use of softwares such as solidworks, AutoCAD for designing and drafting purposes and ability to conduct calculations for various parameters.
• Ability to conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on a design will be advantageous.
• Knowledge of estimation processes and ability to guide estimations in a bid stage of the job / project and must be well versed with material properties and their applications, safety factors and all other engineering related details.
• International experience and working in multi-cultural environment.
• Performance management & process improvement skills/experience.

Generic Skills:

• Computer literate.
• Hands on working experience in 3D modelling using Solidworks, AutoCAD is essential.
• Good understanding of engineering good practice and principles.
• Good interpersonal and team skills
