MEP Engineer - Success Profile
Reporting to: General Manager

Base location: Abu Dhabi

Key purpose

The purpose of this position is to supervise and lead a number of line maintenance teams to provide effective engineering and maintenance services covering building services including mechanical, electrical and plumbing facilities for Al Dar.

Key accountabilities

Key Job Responsibilities
- Lead and give guidance to a number of Mechanical, Electrical &Plumbing services engineering and maintenance teams in carrying out all level of preventive and corrective maintenance activities and minor modifications on Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing facilities covering platform screen doors system, station automated doors, building automated doors, train washing equipment, portable electrical equipment, fire detection/suppression (FPS), tunnel ventilation, heat exchanger ventilation & air-conditioning, lighting system, uninterrupted power supplies, lifts, escalator. Some of these systems are installed along trackside, whilst others can be found in stations and still some others in depots
- Coordinate and allocate resources to all aspects of technical activities to building services on a day-to-day basis
- Supervise and diagnose cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment, replace faulty equipment and handover/taken back to the electro-mechanical workshop for repair
- Lead the line maintenance team in carrying out functional test, troubleshoot, and assemble/disassemble tests as required, repair and replace defective parts in motors, relays, switches, panel boxes, remote control equipment, gear boxes and other electrical and mechanical assemblies associated to platform screen doors, station automated doors, building automated doors, portable electrical equipment, fire detection/suppression (FPS), tunnel ventilation, heat exchanger ventilation & air-conditioning, lighting system, uninterrupted power supplies, lifts, escalator,
- Follow the relevant maintenance procedures and instructions to ensure compliance with Al Dar requirements
- Assist subordinates with the job familiarization where required
- Conduct performance review for Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Team Leaders
- Conduct disciplinary and grievance for Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Team Leaders and Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Technicians
- Assist Building Services Senior Engineer in maintenance planning
- Carry out 24-hour on-call responsibility for incidents and emergency within its section
- Give guidance to Building Services Team Leaders to maintain accurate maintenance records of Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services, equipment performance, work accomplished and other information using a computerized maintenance management system
- Assist the Building Services Senior Engineer and ME&P Services Manager and/or other technical support staff to implement complex systems or new projects
- Maintain accurate maintenance records of building services including Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing facilities, equipment performance, work accomplished and other information using a computerized maintenance management system
- Perform shift and emergency duties when required
- Drive work vehicles when responding to emergencies and when required on duty
- Perform and carry out duties as instructed/directed by the Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Senior Engineer and Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Manager.

HSQE Responsibilities and Information Security Responsibilities
- Awareness of the Integrated Management System and the content of the Environment, Quality, Health & Safety and Information Security Policy Statements
- Understanding of personal responsibilities and contribution to achieving compliance with the Integrated Management System requirements,(including but not limited to competence to perform safety critical roles, legal requirements, control measures arisen from environmental impacts and aspects, job safety analysis and information security risk assessment) and the potential consequences of departure from the arrangements in place to deliver the commitments stated in the policies statements above
- To exercise a personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by their acts or omissions
- To use safety equipment (including PPE) as required and intended and observe that this is also enforced among subcontractors and third parties working in Serco's controlled premises/systems
- Promote a good HSQE and Information Security culture among their peers, subcontractors and third parties
- Lead by example and look at ways to conserve energy, water and resources and minimize the generation of waste through personal performance and raise recommendations on how to improve existing processes on this regard within/outside their departments through their Line Manager, Departmental Safety Meetings and any other appropriate available channels
- Protect information assets and data including both electronic and paper based from all threats whether internal, external, deliberate or accidental
- Promote a good HSQE and Information Security culture among their peers, subcontractors and third parties

Safety Critical Competencies
- Maintaining low voltage electrical equipment (400 VAC)
- Inspecting and maintaining Platform Screen Door equipment
- Inspecting and maintaining Tunnel Ventilation System
- Communicating with Control Centre Controllers
- Communicating with persons responsible for a Track Possession, Worksite or movements of rail vehicles within a Possession.
- Establishing, supervising a removing a safe system of work to protect the safety of persons working on or near the track.
- Must obtain qualification as Line-Person-In-Charge.
- Practical training or the supervision of practical training in any of the tasks defined as safety critical.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

Knowledge
- Ideally a degree holder or higher diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering discipline or equivalent
- Working knowledge in maintaining and repairing motors and pumps, relays, I/O modules, control units, wirings, bearings, drive belts, coils, gearboxes, damper, values, impellers, motor controls, air handling units, chilled water system, fire alarm panels, fire pumps, UPS, batteries and diesel engines, etc. would be a definite advantage
- Knowledge and experience in operating and in interfacing building management system is essential.

Skills
- Thorough understanding of the use, calibration and care of various electronic test equipment and ability to interpret instructions in a variety of written, verbal, pictorial forms in order to carry out the maintenance activities as required
- Ability to compile technical reports, routine business correspondence, prepare method statements and drawings as required
- Possess good communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities
- Hold a valid UAE driving license with good driving skill and experience.

Experience
- Minimum 2 years work experience as a qualified Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Technician in maintaining and repairing Mechanical & Electrical facilities covering platform screen doors system, lighting system, tunnel ventilation system, environmental control systems, fire fight system, LV power control system and emergency power supply system, lifts and escalators
- Preferably with 3 years of supervisory and management experience in supervising a team of Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Technicians and/or 2 years of working experience as Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Services Team Leader to carry out the maintenance activities.
