JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Organization:

Naval Architect to report to the Technical Section Head

And coordinate with Purchase Officers, Logistics & Transport, Commercial Manager and QA/QC Manager.

Summary:

Responsible for planning, designing, installation, operation, maintenance, and supervising the construction and repair of commercial craft. In ship design, naval architects may work on a wide range of vessels, including naval craft, tugs, work boats and oil rigs. The work is related to certain aspects of civil (structures), electrical (power distribution) and mechanical (propulsion and materials) engineering.

Responsibilities of Position:

These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
• Preparation of Docking plans based on Owner’s vessel drawing and including proper position of docking cradles – for the Marine Travelift docking/undocking operations.
• Prepare preliminary ship designs by consulting with ship owners.
• Estimate initial vessel construction costs.
• Carry out studies to work out the most suitable vessel size and to make sure that proposed designs meet performance and cost requirements.
• Determine the proportions and shape of the hull (body of the ship).
• Design accommodations and cargo areas.
• Make calculations relating to the structural and mechanical aspects of ship design, construction, and repair
• Create or adapt designs for aluminum boats and commercial vessels.
• Direct the preparation of drawings and written plans.
• Supervise other people who prepare detailed ship designs, specifications and building contracts.
• Obtain plan approval and supervise all of the construction work and plan, supervise and evaluate trials of the vessel.
• Organize repairs and alterations to vessels and conduct research into better ways for vessels to move through water.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must be PC proficient in a Windows environment and have a working knowledge of standard software applications.
• CAD proficiency required.
• Graduate Engineers (BS/MS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering)
• Experience with motor boats up to 3000HP highly desirable.
