JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will join a Contractor on a very large infrastructure project in Kuwait. Their primary responsibility will be the commercial management for a series of large water and wastewater sector projects. However, these projects fall within the Contractor’s larger city wide, decade long, infrastructure obligations and the Senior Quantity Surveyor will be part of the wider cost controls team.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial support to the various project teams across all aspects of the projects’ life cycle (i.e. inception, design development and management through to construction and handover).

The ideal candidate will have contractor side experience in preparing FIDIC based subcontractor and supplier contracts for water and wastewater projects. They will need to possess a broad understanding of, and demonstrated experience with, a Project’s commercial controls including, but not limited to, budgeting, construction accounting, progress monitoring and reporting, forecasting, risk mitigation, etc.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will report to the Director – Infrastructure and Construction Management.

Responsibilities

• Administration of financial and contractual matters relating to contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, including payments, valuations, claims resolution and final accounts.
• Drafting contract documents for sub-contractor and vendor tenders.
• Tracking and reporting of cost expenditure and cost reconciliation.
• Procuring and analysing quotations from local, regional and international major component suppliers.
• Assessing claims and certifying progress payments.
• Value engineering and viability/feasibility assessments.
• Working closely with Senior Management on risk assessments & allocation within the contract.
• Mentor and support team members in their training and professional development goals.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or Engineering with RICS chartered status.
• Min. 15 years’ contracting experience within the civil, infrastructure and/or building sector.
• Extensive experience with mechanical, electrical and plumbing sub-contract development and international vendor procurement will be a distinct advantage.
• Strong English communication skills (written and verbal) essential, Arabic proficiency is considered an advantage though not essential.
• Strong working knowledge of FIDIC suite of contracts.
• Excellent IT skills (Microsoft suite, CAD/BIM and Construction Accounting Software)
• Attention to detail.
• A history of working abroad with large multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams is preferred.
