JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Position Overview

• Determines methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and selects the most efficient and economical manner in meeting the objectives.
• Serves as a technical leader for projects of broad scope and complexity and are recognized as experts in their field of practice.
• Applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis within a discipline.
• This level of Engineer is a highly qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of current engineering theories and practices.
• May serve as a technical consultant in the area of specialty for management or the client. Typically requires professional registration.
• Assignments involve heavy use of GIS/CAD applications.
• May direct and supervise lower level personnel.
• Travel or relocation to supplier, client, or construction site locations, may be required.

Specific Responsibilities

• Manage the data conversion tasks for engineering design/as-built data to the geodatabase, complaint with the employer/client standards.
• Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analysis.
• Work closely with GIS stakeholders to determine end user requirements and specifications.
• Provide GIS support using a variety of tools such as ESRI’s suite of tools.
• Create, translate and integrate GIS data layers, and digitise new data using a variety of software.
• Assists with the development of GIS applications and models that enable spatial data analysis and queries, and develops tools and programs to automate routine GIS-related tasks.
• Creates, maintains and updates spatial and tabular data using Esri software solutions.
• Develop and adopt best practices in GIS data production and management, ensure efficient workflows are developed, integrated with engineering design workflows.
• Undertake QA/QC checks to all existing geodatabases for internal design disciplines and external stakeholders as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

• BSc degree in Engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 additional years of related work experience.
• Computer proficiency and the ability to perform as a GIS manager are required.
• Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), to include the ESRI suite of tools.
• Understanding and experience in the use of Big Data analysis techniques and tools for both structured and unstructured data.
• Experience in Geospatial analysis design and development of processes for effective data management, particularly in the areas of relational DB technology as well as spatial data.
• Knowledge of database software and scripting (PostGIS, Oracle, SQL, Python, etc.).
• Demonstrated understanding of intelligence community metadata standards and data policies with experience editing and quality checking metadata.
• Demonstrated experience in managing the collection of geospatial data and understanding of current data systems.
• Demonstrated experience in handling and managing spatial geometry types, projections, and geocorrections, particularly within DB schemas and web-based storage systems.
• Must be familiar with ArcGIS’s Data Management, Spatial Statistics, and Spatial Analysis Toolboxes.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong technical writing and briefing skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced team environment.
• Completes other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
