Job description
Job purpose:
Under the guidance of the director of engineering, engineering supervisor, or designate, to maintain equipment and building to a high standard and to ensure that every arriving guest feels as though the facility has been prepared exclusively for them.
Duties & functions:
- Be responsible for plant equipment including chillers, air conditioning, chilled water, pumps, and boilers, including testing and maintenance.
- Attend to repair and maintain refrigeration equipment, chillers, walk-in coolers, and freezers.
- Ensure that health and safety legislation records are logged and maintained.
- Source and contract suppliers as required.
- Organize schedules, methods of work, and risk assessments for plant-related areas.
- Be on call for any plant emergencies.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) checks.
- Manage and service all air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Participate in the hotel energy conservation program.
- Attend all on-the-job training in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
- Supervise the issue and safe return of tools relating to the engineering department.
- Be responsible for contractors working on site, including their safety induction and maintenance of records of all jobs undertaken.
- Liaise with contractors and suppliers.
- Raise, accept, and monitor purchase orders (POs).
- Accept deliveries in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Supervise the maintenance team and any external contractors employed by the hotel to carry out maintenance work.
- Ensure all records in the areas of health and safety are kept up to date.
- Form part of the fire team and assist in any emergencies that may arise.
- Monitor utility readings for the hotel to ensure good power management.
- Stay aware of changes in regulations and environmental issues.
- Carry out other work which might reasonably be required and be available for emergency callouts.
- Work closely with the assistant director of engineering to help reorganize the department to ensure an efficient process of working.
- Plan small guest projects to ensure minimum impact.
- Oversee the team's work and contractors' work to ensure deadlines are met and work is completed to a set standard.
Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years' experience in a similar role in a five-star luxury hotel or resort.
- Must have experience as an electrician and be knowledgeable in electrical skills.
- Able to communicate in English.
