Job purpose

To lead the details process and review the mechanical shop drawings from start to finish for all mechanical systems, ensuring that all shop drawings meet client requirements, are safe, functional, and overseeing the development of detailed construction plans using the Revit program.

Key accountability areas

• Product design and development: Developing and creating the shop drawings of mechanical components or systems based on client requirements, including orthographic, isometric, and exploded views, using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Design analysis and optimization: Analyze designs to identify potential issues and optimize them for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Mechanical systems: Expertise in mechanical systems for buildings, including HVAC, fire fighting, plumbing, and BMS system.
• Material selection: Recommend appropriate materials for mechanical components based on their properties, performance requirements, and cost considerations.
• Dimensioning and tolerancing: Apply appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing techniques to ensure the accuracy and functionality of mechanical drawings and components.
• Revision management: Manage revisions and updates to technical drawings, ensuring that all changes are accurately documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members to review designs, address technical challenges, and optimize mechanical components and assemblies.
• Quality assurance: Conduct quality checks and reviews of technical drawings to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and project requirements.
• Documentation and reporting: Create detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Project coordination: Coordinate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure that mechanical design tasks are completed on time and within budget.
• Health and safety compliance: Ensure that mechanical designs comply with relevant health and safety regulations and standards to minimize risks during manufacturing, assembly, and operation.
• Continuous learning and professional development: Stay updated on the latest advancements, technologies, and best practices in a rapidly evolving field.

Role accountability

• BIM modeling and analysis: Create detailed shop drawings using the Revit program.
• Accuracy and precision: Ensure accuracy and precision in all technical drawings, adhering to industry standards and specifications to produce reliable and consistent drawings.
• Interpretation of specifications: Interpret engineering specifications, sketches, and technical documents accurately to translate them into detailed drawings.
• Regulatory compliance: Ensure that shop drawings comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations by conducting research, staying updated on regulatory changes, and coordinating with regulatory bodies for certification and approval processes.
• Communication and collaboration: Communicate effectively with engineers and designers to clarify requirements, address issues, and ensure alignment throughout the design process.
• Adherence to regulations and standards: Comply with industry regulations, standards, and best practices to ensure the safety, reliability, and legality of designs.
• Problem solving and troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical challenges that arise during the detailed process.
• Drafting mechanical plans: Create detailed mechanical drawings, plans, and diagrams using Revit, accurately representing the layout of mechanical systems such as HVAC, fire fighting, plumbing, and BMS system.
• Ensuring accuracy: Check drawings for accuracy and completeness, including dimensions, labels, and symbols. Identify and correct errors or discrepancies to maintain quality standards.
• Collaboration: Work closely with senior engineers and designers to integrate mechanical systems into larger projects and ensure compatibility with other components or subsystems.
• Document management: Organize and manage a library of technical drawings and related documentation, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.
• Adhering to safety standards: Ensure drawings comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations to maintain safety and quality in mechanical engineering projects.
• Problem solving: Resolve technical challenges and issues using creative problem-solving skills and engineering principles.
• Meeting deadlines: Work efficiently to meet project deadlines and milestones, manage workload effectively, and communicate any potential delays or challenges to managers.
