Overview

The English Editor has the responsibility of ensuring that materials created by the company are logical, concise, and understandable by the target audience, and adheres to the company's accepted standards of style and language. The Candidate should be detail oriented with experience in editing, writing, customer service, and preferably with experience in the oil and gas industry. Good references and a portfolio are essential for consideration of any candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to do the following :
- Edit for the following: sensitive information (as defined by the organization), American Standard English or British Standard English (depending on the target audience), consistency with corporate messaging, appropriateness for the target audience, style, governmental guidelines, and cultural sensitivity.
- Be familiar with and keep up to date on unit processes and procedures, workflows and related instructions.
- Be prepared to explain edits to customers (a sound knowledge of grammar is required).
- Be able to multitask with a heavy workload and short deadlines.
- Be computer literate enough to be able to process multimedia submissions (e.g., Publisher, Adobe, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Keep records of all submissions.
- Maintain a current level of knowledge about company operations and facilities.
- Mentor younger employees.
- Additional duties as determined by operational needs.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor or master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of writing/editing experience.
- Native English speaker.
- Must be familiar with a variety of writing styles, including: academic, scientific, web content, health, business, and commercial writing.
- Must be able to handle a large volume of material with very short deadlines over extended periods.
- Experience in customer service is preferable for this position.
- Must be able to work calmly in a high-pressure environment.
- Experience as a teacher/trainer of English as a second language is preferred.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Oil industry experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the working environment and business culture of the Middle East, preferably gained from professional experience in the region.
- Familiarity with the energy industry gained from professional writing and editing experience in the sector.
