Job Purpose

The incumbent conducts comprehensive geophysical studies and analyses related to hydrocarbon exploration, and prepares appropriate reports. Must be capable of working alone or with a group to develop timely and reliable solutions to geophysical problems and to implement these solutions or recommend appropriate action, depending on the circumstances. Must have substantial expertise in one or more of the geophysical disciplines used in hydrocarbon exploration.

Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform one or more of the following activities, the number and combination depending on the assignment.
(l) Carry out investigations into basic geophysical problems related to hydrocarbon exploration.
(2) Develop, recommend and implement strategies to optimize the quality and utilization of geophysical data.
(3) Supervise, review and quality control the acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data.
(4) Interpret geophysical and geological data to map prospective areas and define areas for further exploratory effort. Recommend appropriate action.
(5) Develop and maintain computerized geophysical databases, and provide support for Exploration users.
(6) Develop and evaluate geophysical computer applications and apply them to solving Exploration problems.
(7) Train new personnel.
(8) Any or all of the duties described in the Geophysicist II job description.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience Requirements

(A) Bachelor's degree in Geophysics or related field (e.g. Geology, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering). An advanced degree will reduce prerequisite work experience stated in (B) below by one year.
(B) Generally a minimum of nine years experience in Petroleum Geophysics or other discipline appropriate to the task.
(C) Fluent in spoken and written English.
